Role Overview

Under general supervision plans conducts and supervises complex accounting activities relating to the maintenance of a complete and accurate general ledger and the resultant managerial reports and financial statements for Reinsurance Accounting.

Key Responsibilities

  • Compile and analyze financial information to prepare reports regarding facultative treaty and excess of loss coverages for reinsurance programs
  • Lead the preparation approval and audit of financial documents to ensure journal entries are properly entered into the accounting system
  • Review and audit reinsurance agreements entered into financial systems for Underwriting Claims and Accounting use
  • Assist in preparation and review of quarterly and annual statutory filings on both a consolidated and company basis
  • Prepare internal summaries of assumed and ceded business and compile data related to commutations and liquidations
  • Communicate and reinforce reinsurance accounting policies practices and procedures
  • Review and approve forms and reports prepared by team members for accuracy and completeness
  • Assist with banking activities including letters of credit and collateral management
  • Proactively resolve reconciliation items related to reinsurer balances
  • Update profit commission and sliding scale calculations

What You Bring

Education

  • Bachelors degree in Accounting Finance or a related field or equivalent education and/or experience

Certifications

  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation preferred

Experience

  • 6 years of relevant and progressive professional experience in Accounting and/or Finance

Additional Qualifications

  • Experience preparing consolidated financial statements
  • Understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Statutory Accounting Principles
  • Ability to apply broad knowledge of accounting principles practices and procedures
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills with emphasis on confidentiality tact and diplomacy
  • Exceptional organizational and analytical skills with demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Knowledge of industry changes legal updates and technical developments related to applicable business areas
  • Advanced proficiency using Microsoft Office Package (Excel Access PowerPoint Word)

Travel (if required/needed)

Occasional travel (up to 10% of time)
