Role Overview
Under general supervision plans conducts and supervises complex accounting activities relating to the maintenance of a complete and accurate general ledger and the resultant managerial reports and financial statements for Reinsurance Accounting.
Key Responsibilities
- Compile and analyze financial information to prepare reports regarding facultative treaty and excess of loss coverages for reinsurance programs
- Lead the preparation approval and audit of financial documents to ensure journal entries are properly entered into the accounting system
- Review and audit reinsurance agreements entered into financial systems for Underwriting Claims and Accounting use
- Assist in preparation and review of quarterly and annual statutory filings on both a consolidated and company basis
- Prepare internal summaries of assumed and ceded business and compile data related to commutations and liquidations
- Communicate and reinforce reinsurance accounting policies practices and procedures
- Review and approve forms and reports prepared by team members for accuracy and completeness
- Assist with banking activities including letters of credit and collateral management
- Proactively resolve reconciliation items related to reinsurer balances
- Update profit commission and sliding scale calculations

What You Bring
Education
- Bachelors degree in Accounting Finance or a related field or equivalent education and/or experience
Certifications
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation preferred
Experience
- 6 years of relevant and progressive professional experience in Accounting and/or Finance
Additional Qualifications
- Experience preparing consolidated financial statements
- Understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Statutory Accounting Principles
- Ability to apply broad knowledge of accounting principles practices and procedures
- Excellent written and verbal communications skills with emphasis on confidentiality tact and diplomacy
- Exceptional organizational and analytical skills with demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously
- Knowledge of industry changes legal updates and technical developments related to applicable business areas
- Advanced proficiency using Microsoft Office Package (Excel Access PowerPoint Word)
Travel (if required/needed)
Occasional travel (up to 10% of time)
