Pay Range
$21.85 - $32.80Major Responsibilities:- Escorts patients to exam/treatment room; takes and records vital signs; records medical history according to charting criteria; prepares patient for physician exams; evaluates patients to maximize patient flow and minimize patient wait time; completes all documentation and paperwork.
- Performs procedures and diagnostic testing based on patient evaluation following physician orders and established guidelines policies and procedures. Sets up monitoring recording and related equipment used during procedures. Assists with procedures providing appropriate support and instruction for the patient.
- Assists electrophysiologist during procedures (i.e. tilt studies) in the clinic. Performs initial ECG interpretation and communication with physician regarding test results.
- Interviews patients routinely and during symptomatic events for the purpose of detecting sub-clinical pacemaker failure and correlating symptoms with ECG findings. Provides education and follow-up to patients with regard to the disease process and pre / post-surgical management. Collaborates with physicians and health care team members in planning implementing and evaluating comprehensive patient care.
- Performs and assesses transtelephonic ECGs on patients instructing them on the test procedure to ensure proper transmission and quality data.
- Performs independent interrogation of implanted devices and prepares reports for electrophysiologist. Notifies physician and/or registered nurse of device malfunction and dysrhythmias per protocol.
- Documents patient evaluation procedures medications refills and relevant information according to established guidelines.
- Provides guidance to patients regarding health problems symptoms or concerns. Triages patient calls utilizing interpretive skills and initiates interventions in an assistive capacity under the supervision of a physician or nurse. Coordinates care with outside agencies including but not limited to: hospitals pharmacies extended care facilities and insurance companies.
- Coordinates clerical activities of the pacemaker clinic including patient registration reminders and follow up.
- Performs initial troubleshooting on equipment. Recognizes mechanical or technical abnormalities and uses established protocols in solving the problem. Performs calibration cleaning and quality assurance measures on equipment.
Licensure Registration and/or Certification Required:
- Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providerscertification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) needs to be obtained within 6 months unless department leader has determined it is not required.
Education Required:
- High School Graduate.
Experience Required:
- Typically requires 3 years of experience in cardiology and/or electrophysiology patient evaluation performing or assisting with cardiology and/or electrophysiology related procedures and diagnostic tests (ECG tilt studies interrogation of implanted devices) and knowledge of cardiac medications and medication therapy.
Knowledge Skills & Abilities Required:
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Basic knowledge of the cardiovascular and peripheral vascular system.
- Must be able to communicate effectively (oral and written) with physicians patients and other staff members.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
- Must be able to sit stand walk lift squat bend twist and reach above shoulders frequently throughout the workday.
- Must be able to:
- lift up to 50 lbs from floor to waist.
- lift up to 20 lbs over the head.
- carry up to 40 lbs a reasonable distance.
- Must be able to:
- push/pull with 30 lbs of force.
- perform a sliding transfer of 150 lbs with a second person present.
- Ability to effectively use foot pedals on carts or machines.
- May be exposed to mechanical electrical chemical and radiation hazards as well as blood and body fluids; therefore personal protective equipment must be worn as necessary.
- Operates all equipment necessary to perform the job.
