Job Summary

Center for Autism and Related Disabilities:

The Center for Autism and Related Disabilities (CARD) is the largest of the seven regional autism programs in Florida. Funded through an annual legislative allocation the center serves over 26000 residents of central Florida with on the autism spectrum across the lifespan through consultative individual and family support training and technical assistance and public awareness with a mission of optimizing the potential of people with autism and related disabilities.

Center for Autism and Related Disabilities (CARD) is a clinical service centers within the College of Health Professions and Sciences. College of Health Professions and Sciences: The University of Central Florida (UCF) College of Health Professions and Sciences (CHPS) is home to nationally recognized programs focused on health and wellness and a respected faculty dedicated to teaching innovations and research partnerships. The college offers accredited programs in athletic training communication sciences and disorders physical therapy and social work. CHPS also offers one of UCFs largest majors health sciences as well as popular programs in sport and exercise science within the field of kinesiology. Through coursework field experience and interprofessional education our students develop high-demand skills in healthcare and cultural competency for working with varied populations.

The Opportunity:

The Autism Spectrum Disorders Specialist II is responsible for working directly with children and adults with autism spectrum disorders their families/caregivers and the educational and local agencies serving children and adults with autism related disabilities. The Autism Spectrum Disorder Specialist II creates and delivers consultation training content and programs for professional development reflecting advanced understanding of Autism Spectrum Disorders and related disabilities and provides direct consultative services to children and adults with ASD and their families.

The Autism Spectrum Disorder Specialist II is a member of a dedicated team of cross-disciplinary professionals with expertise in autism spectrum disorders and works within a region to support all individuals and communities with individuals with autism in that region. The region for this position is Lake and Sumter counties.

Responsibilities:

Direct Clinical & Consultation Services:

  • Primarily responsible for conducting remote and inperson individual schoolbased and inhome consultations with clients.

  • Maintains an active caseload of children and adults with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).Conducts school and community consultations and inhome visits involving daily regional travel using a personal vehicle.

  • Conducts initial phone consultations with new clients and provides recommendations based on presenting needs.

  • Uses independent clinical judgment for the majority of basic stakeholder needs and situations.

Intervention Program Development & Family Support:

  • Develops and models intervention programs including communication and behavior supports with families and educators.

  • Develops home programs with families of CARD clients.

  • Provides regional support for other stakeholders as needed.

  • Assists in implementing Center goals and strategies.

  • Collaborates effectively with other Autism Disorders Specialists to support ongoing programs and initiatives.

Training Education & Technical Assistance:

  • Develops and provides innovative parent and professional education programs and content as requested by supervisor with general supervision.

  • Delivers parent and professional seminars and education programs at least four times per month including evening and weekend sessions.

  • Provides parent and professional training and education programs on a regular basis.

  • Provides basic technical assistance to school districts agencies employers and community groups.

Stakeholder Collaboration & Resource Coordination:

  • Provides stakeholders with collaborative consultation demonstrating understanding of ASD and competency in researchbased best practices.

  • Develops and maintains a resource network of appropriate referrals based on client and stakeholder needs.

Documentation Reporting & Administrative Responsibilities:

  • Writes and maintains case reports electronic client records reports and other professional correspondence.

  • Participates in case conferences staff meetings and other regularly scheduled meetings to support department needs.

  • Participates in meetings for the Center for Autism and Related Disabilities (CARD) College of Health Professions and Sciences and other UCF units as requested by supervisor.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelors or Masters degree and 2 years of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience pursuant to Fla. Stat. 112.219(6).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Masters in Education Communication Disorders Psychology or a related field.

  • 4 years working with individuals with autism spectrum disorders directly in an educational or clinical setting.

  • Prefer Bilingual candidate with the ability to communicate in English plus Spanish Portuguese or Haitian Creole to effectively serve our families and the community.

Special Instructions to the Applicants:

  • This role is responsible to support assigned functions within the Lake and Sumter counties.

  • This is a Contract and Grant (C&G) funded position. Employment is subject to availability of funding and may cease at the time funding for this employment is depleted.

  • Position requires a valid Class E drivers license. This position may involve driving to various locations on and off campus to conduct University business.

  • The anticipated salary range for this position is $56030- $72000. The final salary will be determined based on the candidates qualifications experience and internal equity considerations.

  • All applicants must be authorized to work for any U.S. employer. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position and the university cannot accommodate H1B transfers or employment-based visa processing for individuals currently sponsored by another employer.
