The hyperbaric technician under the supervision of the hyperbaric physician will assume responsibility for the safe and effective operation of the compression chamber system and supporting components. All therapeutic and diagnostic modalities will be ordered by the hyperbaric physician.Position: Hyperbaric Technician
Location: Mason City IA
Schedule: 40 hours per week Day shift M-F
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Performs maintenance activities of the hyperbaric chambers and associated systems and equipment as directed
Reports safety issues and/or concerns.
Demonstrates a working knowledge of chamber operations via completion of HBO competency workbook.
Educates and identifies what items are allowed in the chamber area and during treatments to ensure safety
Completes patient treatment charges on a daily basis.
Performs data entry into appropriate clinical data/charge systems and develops reports as requested.
Ensure that medical records include serial photographs of the wound for reporting of the patients progress and participate in taking the photographs if designated.
Performs transcutaneous oxygen monitoring testes as ordered and per department policy
Perform dressing changes and/or other wound care with in scope of practice as ordered and participate in wound center activities when HBOT volumes allow.
Assists in the vascular and wound center within scope of practice as schedule allows.
Perform marketing duties as needed intra and interdepartmental.
Maintains required department confidentiality and abides by HIPPA regulations.
Provides competent patient care to the above indicated patient populations by obtaining and appropriately interpreting data making appropriate decisions based on demonstrated knowledge of age-specific growth and development and appropriately adapting procedures and treatments.
Takes an active role in enhancing ability to carry out job functions through personal and professional/job-related growth and development and participates in medical center and/or departmental education programs.
Communicates with and performs duties following the philosophy of Mercy Medical Center North Iowa and the Sisters of Mercy reflecting the organizations Mission Values and Guiding Behaviors.
Supports and abides by all medical center departmental and safety policies and procedures. Proactively identifies safety concerns surrounding the work environment.
Performs other responsibilities as requested by supervisor manager or department head.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
A. Education:
license certification or training is required in one of the following:
Registered Nurse Practical nurse respiratory therapist respiratory therapy technician emergency medical technician diving medical technician military corpsmen life support technician.
2. Licensed or certified in above field in state of Iowa strongly preferred.
3. Completion of Hyperbaric training course within 6 months of hire. Certification as a hyperbaric technician (CHT) within 3 years preferred.
B. Experience:
1. Must have a minimum of one year of experience in healthcare or the diving industry. Wound care hyperbaric medicine and/or experience in emergency medicine or acute medical care is preferred.
2. Specific training and/or experience in compression chamber operations including a demonstrated knowledge of decompression tables strongly preferred.
C. Special Skills and Competencies:
1. Excellent verbal and written skills to communicate effectively with patients/families and providers.
2. Experience with computers
3. Must provide proof of Basic Life Support (BLS Healthcare Provider American Heart Association; or American Red Cross Professional Rescuer-LIVE class only) via current card prior to employment or within 60 days of hire and maintains current status.
Mandatory Reporting: Child and Dependent Adult Abuse requirement within 6 months of hire and renews this requirement every 5 years.
