Position Summary

This position performs a variety of building audits to evaluate maintain and install freestanding and modular furniture within both Interior and Exterior workspaces. The position ensures accurate and timely maintenance of products to the customers satisfaction. This position transitions out of the learning stage of the Furniture Technician career path and is able to put learning into practice.


Responsibilities

  • Monitor communication tools such as email Google hangouts and Internal work orders for updates on projects that reflect a change in the clients needs.

  • Assist with clients last-minute requests that are outside of ticket requests such as furniture relocation removal and or installation while remaining professional and upholding good customer service.

  • Walk the client site to ensure spaces accurately reflect orders requested by the client.

  • Account for company vehicles while transporting furniture to the client site. Daily photos and updating a cellular application are needed to ensure vehicle maintenance is being upheld.

  • Utilize quick decision making and organizational skills to contribute towards ideas that enhance the clients space.

  • Uphold a positive and respectful attitude while conducting work on the client site as employees are in meetings and requesting a peaceful atmosphere that does not disrupt others.

  • Apply finishing ingredients such as paint oil stain or wax onto and into wood grain using a brush spray or hand-rubbing technique and apply lacquer or other sealers.

    • Smooth shape and touch up surfaces to prepare them for finishing using sandpaper pumice stones steel wool chisels sanders or grinders.

    • Examine furniture to determine the extent of damage or deterioration and to decide on the optimal method for repair or restoration.

    • Recommend woods colors finishes and furniture styles using knowledge of wood products fashions and styles.

    • Select appropriate finishing ingredients such as paint stain lacquer shellac or varnish depending on factors such as wood hardness and surface type.

    • Fill and smooth cracks or depressions remove marks and imperfections and repair broken parts using plastic or wood putty glue nails or screws.

    • Distress surfaces with woodworking tools or abrasives before staining to create an antique appearance or rub surfaces to bring out highlights and shadings.

    • Remove accessories before finishing and mask areas that should not be exposed to finishing processes or substances.

    • Replace or refurbish upholstery of items using tacks adhesives softeners solvents stains or polish.

    • Stencil gild emboss mark or paint designs or borders to reproduce the original appearance of restored pieces or to decorate new pieces.

    • Design create and decorate entire pieces or specific parts of furniture such as drawers for cabinets.

  • Other projects and duties as assigned

Qualifications

Education Experience

High School diploma or general education degree GED or 2 to 3 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.


Knowledge Skills Abilities

  • Mechanical ability with knowledge of hand power tools

  • Knowledge of chemical use and application process

  • Ability to recommend finishes and stains

  • Good organizational skills

  • Ability to follow instructions

  • Must have reliable transportation in order to work at job sites throughout the Bay Area

  • Ability to read and interpret furniture installation drawings and blueprints

Physical Requirements

  • Seeing color and depth perception hearing listening clear speech touching ability to move distances within and between warehouses offices ability to mount and dismount forklift truck pushing pulling driving lifting up to 100 pounds and carrying up to 50 pounds. Must be able to climb up into and down from delivery trucks and walk up and down ramps where required

Work Environment


  • Works around dust and dirt may be required to work different shifts and work hours; may work alone or with a team; in moderate heat or cold around electrical equipment fumes odors dirt dust. Generally works around loud noises such as trucks forklifts and power hand tools.
