Expected hours of work per week: 10-20
Work Location & Hours: Center for Student Success: Monday-Friday 8am-5pm and Study Hall: Monday-Thursday 6:00-9:00
The English Language Learner Resource and Support Assistant is a student worker within the Center for Student Success who provides academic and relational support to students who are continuing to develop English proficiency. This role focuses on walking alongside students as they navigate coursework communication and campus life in English.
Qualifications for Position:
- Ability to communicate clearly and patiently with students who are developing English proficiency.
- Sensitivity to cross-cultural communication and diverse educational backgrounds.
- Patience creativity and adaptability to explain academic concepts in multiple ways.
- Clear communication skills with supervisors students co-workers and professors as needed.
- Administrative skills and organization.
- Base knowledge of Google Drive Sheets Forms Calendar and Gmail.
- Personable and approachable disposition to interact with students in a supportive role.
- Time management to be able to show up to shifts on time and scheduling with students.
- Discretion to maintain the privacy of students and interactions.
Expected Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide a supportive and welcoming environment for students adjusting to college life in English.
- Meet regularly with assigned students to provide academic support.
- Assist students in understanding assignments syllabi and academic expectations.
- Support students in building confidence using English in academic settings (speaking listening reading and writing).
- Help students prepare for interactions with professors and peers (emails conversations class participation).
- Help students develop time management organization and study strategies.
- Encourage goal setting and provide accountability for academic and personal progress.
- Help connect students with campus resources and reinforce understanding of available services.
- Monitor one or two evening study hall shifts each week (minimum of 1.5 hours per week).
- Manage a booking calendar for students to schedule meetings.
- Maintain documentation of student interactions and communicate with CSS staff.
