Established in 1805 the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (the NYC Health Department) is the oldest and largest health department in the country. Our Agencys five strategic priorities building off a recently completed strategic planning process emerging from the COVID-19 emergency are:
1) To re-envision how the Health Department prepares for and responds to health emergencies with a focus on building a response-ready organization with faster decision-making transparent public communications and stronger surveillance and bridges to healthcare systems
2) Address and prevent chronic and diet-related disease including addressing rising rates of childhood obesity and the impact of diabetes and transforming our food systems to improve nutrition and enhance access to healthy foods
3) Address the second pandemic of mental illness including: reducing overdose deaths strengthening our youth mental health systems and supporting people with serious mental illness
4) Reduce black maternal mortality and make New York a model city for womens health
5) Mobilize against and combat the health impacts of climate change

With commitment to advance anti-racist public health practices that dismantle systems that perpetuate inequitable power opportunity and access the NYC Health Department continues to work in and with communities and community organizations to increase their access to health services and decrease avoidable health outcomes.


The DOHMH Bureau of Facilities Planning and Administrative Services provides a myriad of key critical services including but not limited to coordination of physical movement of supplies and critical materials between and among DOHMH programs and facilities; and the administration of salvage operations for durable goods no longer needed and deemed excess by DOHMH. Under broad administrative direction supervises motor vehicle transportation or motor equipment operations for a department or large bureau with a major program of vehicle use or where a heavy volume of goods pick-up and delivery is required; and performs related work.

With minimal individual supervision the incumbent operates motor vehicles such as passenger cars vans and light trucks; examples of typical tasks are:

- May drive a passenger van carrying employees and material to a from work locations.
- May act as a chauffeur to an Agency official.
- Responsible for tools supplies materials and equipment carried in or on the assigned vehicle.
- Assists in loading and unloading of materials equipment and passengers.
- Checks tires oil and fuel levels of the vehicles replenishes fluids as needed and checks the vehicle to see that lights horn and brakes appear to be operating properly.
- Reports any noticeable mechanical defects in the vehicle.
- Changes tires or wheels.
- Prepares Trip Reports or enters trip data in computerized applications as required.

Qualifications :

Education and Experience Requirements: There are no formal education or experience requirements.
Driver License Requirement: By the time you are appointed to this position you must have a motor vehicle driver license valid in the State of New York. If you have moving violations license suspension(s) or an accident record you may be disqualified. This license must be maintained for the duration of your employment.
