Technical Manager Power Systems Modelling & Grid Integration (APAC)
Location: Melbourne (preferred) Sydney or Brisbane (Hybrid/Remote Leadership Across APAC)
Im working with a global leader in energy technology and electrification an organisation at the forefront of the energy transition delivering advanced solutions across power systems grid infrastructure and renewable integration.
We are seeking a Technical Manager to join and lead their Power Systems Modelling & Grid team a high-impact position combining deep technical expertise with regional leadership across APAC.
Why this role stands out
This is not a conventional grid modelling role. Youll sit within a Power Conversion-focused division (not wind) giving you exposure to a diverse portfolio of technologies including:
- Battery energy storage systems (BESS)
- Solar PV and hybrid generation plants
- Synchronous condensers and system strength solutions
- Advanced power electronics and grid support technologies
Youll operate across the APAC region blending hands-on technical delivery with leadership and playing a key role in shaping how modern energy assets connect to and stabilise power systems.
The Opportunity
This role combines technical authority stakeholder influence and team leadership. You will act as a central figure bridging engineering delivery regulatory compliance and customer engagement across complex grid connection projects.
Your core responsibilities:
1. Technical Leadership & Delivery
- Lead power system studies including load flow RMS and EMT simulations
- Oversee modelling and analysis using tools - PSSE PSCAD and PowerFactory
- Provide technical oversight on system strength stability and grid compliance
- Ensure quality and consistency across all technical outputs
2. Grid Connection & Market Interface
- Manage the end-to-end generator connection process (R0 R1 and R2 submissions) and compliance with NER Chapter 5 requirements
- Serve as the key technical interface with AEM0 and NSPs
- Lead technical negotiations and drive successful connection outcomes
3. Team Leadership (APAC)
- Lead and develop a distributed team of engineers across APAC
- Foster strong collaboration across geographies and functions
- Mentor and build capability in grid modelling and compliance
- Drive effective stakeholder engagement and team performance
What were looking for
Essential experience:
- Extensive experience with generator/grid connection processes in Australia
- Advanced technical expertise in power system modelling and analysis
- Proven experience engaging with AEMO and NSPs including negotiations
Leadership capability:
- Experience in people management or technical leadership roles
- Ability to manage and influence remote cross-regional teams
- Strong communication stakeholder management and organisational skills
