Your role
CBC Saskatchewan is looking for an experienced News Editor/Presenter to present our newscasts on Saskatoon Morning the top-rated radio program in Saskatchewans largest city
.
Between 06:00 and 08:30 you will be the voice of CBC news to our Saskatoon audience. You will research write and present local and national news all framed with a Saskatoon audience in mind. Youll be comfortable adapting and shifting plans in order to react to breaking or developing news.
You will have a close relationship with the show team pulling news content from the live program and generating story ideas for the morning audience.
After the show wed like you to share great show content with new audiences on different platforms. You will write digital stories. You will work with our social team to get Saskatoon morning stories in front of audiences on those platforms. You will make those connections as story ideas are being developed so they can be researched and gathered with multiple platforms in mind.
It will take a special person to fill this role. We are looking for an exceptional journalist who thrives in a fast-paced high-pressure environment. Someone who understands the diverse and changing landscape of Saskatchewan and the importance of reflecting all our communities in our content. And youll be live on the radio. We want to hear great energy and great interaction between you and our host.
This is a permanent fulltime on-site role based in Saskatoon.
We are looking for a candidate with the following:
Demonstrated understanding and awareness of issues and events particular to Saskatoon and Saskatchewan.
Excellent journalistic decision-making skills ensuring all CBC journalistic standards are met.
Excellent audio presentation skills and an engaging on-air presence.
Ability to present the news on air and present material with credibility and authority in a range of situations including live events and breaking news.
Ability to self-operate a studio audio board during a live newscast.
Ability to quickly cut audio clips from a variety of audio and video sources.
Ability to chase breaking news when required.
Ability to work effectively under pressure and deadlines reacting quickly to changing priorities and breaking news.
Strong broadcast writing and script-editing skills.
Strong digital writing and packaging skills.
Knowledge of social platforms and storytelling techniques
Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills.
Strong desire to live and promote the values of diversity and inclusive and respectful work culture.
Creative flexible and self-motivated.
Journalism degree or equivalent preferred.
Four years of comparable and relevant experience that demonstrates knowledge of the broadcasting industry preferred.
Ability to work a variety of shifts including early starts late finishes and weekends.
