We are currently in search of an Internal Audit Senior Director to join our Audit and Risk team! Reporting to the Chief Legal Officer the Internal Audit Senior Director will design implement and lead the global internal audit functions for Feed the Children. This role will work collaboratively across the organization on key initiatives and leverage outsourced audit partners to deliver high quality assurance and advisory services. This position will be responsible for creating a scalable structure that supports long-term organizational needs and will serve as a key leader to help strengthen governance risk management internal controls and donor compliance functions across our diverse global operations. This position will work closely with senior executives the legal and compliance teams and the Audit & Risk Committee to the Board.

NOTE: The ideal candidate for this position will work from our corporate office in Oklahoma City OK however qualified remote candidates residing in the DMV area (District of Columbia Maryland and Virginia) will be considered.

Salary range: $155K-$170K (commensurate with experience)

Job Requirements:
Education

Bachelors degree in accounting finance or related field required. Masters degree preferred.

Experience

10 years of internal audit experience required including 4 years of leadership experience.

Experience working within a global organization required nonprofit experience preferred

Strong understanding of IIA Standards internal controls risk management and regulatory frameworks.

Strong understanding of nonprofit accounting regulatory environment (including 501(c)(3) issues donor compliance gifts in kind donations).

Demonstrated ability to manage outsourced/co-sourced audit partners.

Demonstrated ability to manage complex audits and investigations independently.

Excellent communication and presentation skills including board-level and executive reporting and engagement.

Highly reliable and experienced in applying internal audit standards and principles.

Demonstrated expertise in risk-based audit strategies risk management finance accounts IT and audit practices required

Strong experience overseeing internal audit engagements and all operational aspects of the risk assurance function required

Proven experience leveraging data analytics to identify existing and emerging risks and trends required

Strong proficiency in audit management software and data analytics tools required

Experience with government funded programs or federal grant compliance preferred

English fluency required; Spanish proficiency preferred.

Strong proficiency in nonprofit accounting regulatory environment (including 501(c)(3) issues donor compliance gifts in kind donation) preferred

Experience with donor-funded programs (USAID UN agencies foundations etc.) preferred

Background in fraud risk management or investigations preferred

Experience building running or scaling an internal audit function preferred

Project management certification preferred

Any combination of education training and experience which provides the required knowledge skills and abilities to perform the essential functions of this job may be considered.

Licenses and Certifications

Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or equivalent required.

Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE) Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA) or Certification in Risk Management Assurance (CRMA) strongly preferred.

Essential Functions:

Strategic Leadership & Governance

  • Develop and execute a risk-based internal audit plan aligned with strategic objectives global operations mission priorities and our risk profile.
  • Serve as a key liaison to the Audit & Risk Committee to the Board providing transparent reporting on audit results emerging risks and control issues.
  • Maintain independence while building strong trust-based relationships across the organization.
  • Maintain audit documentation and compliance records in accordance with professional standards.

Oversight of Outsourced Internal Audit Partners

  • Lead and manage outsourced/co-sourced internal audit vendors including scoping scheduling quality review and performance evaluation.
  • Ensure outsourced work adheres to IIA Standards and organizational expectations.
  • Coordinate resources efficiently across multiple countries and time zones.
  • Ensure timely reporting of audit findings root cause analysis and follow-up on remediation plans.

Risk Management & Internal Controls

  • Advise on internal controls and risk mitigation strategies. Lead internal control assessments.
  • Partner with global and country leadership to identify control gaps and develop practical remediation plans.
  • Support enterprise risk management (ERM) processes including risk identification and monitoring.
  • Coordinate with external auditors other assurance providers and provide support for their work assess their findings and implement recommendations.
  • Develop metrics to ensure effectiveness of the function.

Compliance & Donor Assurance

  • Evaluate compliance with donor requirements grant agreements and international regulatory obligations.
  • Oversee special reviews investigations or compliance audits as needed and in collaboration with legal and compliance teams.
  • Strengthen fraud prevention and detection practices across global operations.

Reporting & Communication; Modernization

  • Deliver clear actionable audit reports trends insights and presentations to senior leadership and the Audit and Risk Committee to the Board.
  • Track remediation progress and escalate overdue or high-risk issues.
  • Communicate complex risks in a way that is accessible to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Champion the responsible adoption of AI and emerging technologies across audit functions including fraud detection risk assessment report generation and establish metrics to measure their effectiveness and efficiency gains.
  • Advise cross functional teams to strengthen internal controls monitoring and policy compliance.
  • Stay abreast of industry trends in internal audit and compliance regulatory changes and emerging professional standards to ensure the function remains proactive and responsive to new risks.
  • As needed assess organizational needs and recommend when and how to build internal audit capacity. If team expansion occurs manage the team including hiring development setting goals monitoring performance and building capacity.

Capacity Building & Advisory Support

  • Partner with compliance finance and legal teams to provide training and guidance to global teams on internal controls risk management and compliance.
  • Promote a culture of accountability transparency and strong internal controls across all countries.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to leadership while maintaining independence
  • Design implement and maintain a quality assurance and improvement program in conformance with IIA standards including ongoing internal assessments and periodic external assessments to ensure the internal audit function continuously meets professional standards and delivers measurable value to the organization.
  • Serve as a proactive thought partner to senior leadership providing risk informed insights and advice on strategic initiatives and significant operational changes.

Travel: The travel requirements for this position are estimated to be <25% of the work time. Travel may include Domestic and International travel. Drivers license and passport required.
