Description of Work

The WNC Agricultural Center is a self-supporting multi-use complex that operates 364 days per year. The primary purpose of the facility is to serve the horse/ livestock and trade show industries and meet the needs of both the agricultural and non-agricultural community by providing and maintaining buildings and grounds capable of hosting equine events tradeshows conventions seminars community events and public expos as well as carrying out all activities of the annual North Carolina Mountain State Fair. The North Carolina Mountain State Fair serves the agricultural manufacturing commercial educational governmental and other agencies across the State and its visitors.

This position is responsible for ensuring the maintenance upkeep and repair of the WNC Agricultural Center infrastructure buildings grounds vehicles and equipment are up to date. Position is responsible for maintaining a safe clean and efficient working environment for staff vendors and visitors. Position is a working supervisor and will supervise and plan the work of a seven-person maintenance team as well as provide on-the-job training and counsel. Night weekend and holiday work may be required as needed.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences

Recruitment Range: $52592 - $80000

  • General knowledge of a variety of moderately complex trades (i.e. carpentry electrical plumbing)
  • Working knowledge of the tools materials methods and practices of construction maintenance and repair.
  • Ability to review the quality of completed repairs construction and/or maintenance work.
  • Ability to interpret building and mechanical layout plans and specifications.
  • Must have valid NC Drivers License

Minimum Education and Experience

High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and four (4) years of progressive experience in facility maintenance or construction including experience in at least three (3) building or mechanical trades including one (1) year of supervisory experience in construction maintenance and/or repair of buildings and facilities; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Necessary Special Qualification: May require current certification by the EPA as a Type I II III or Universal technician as required by 40 CFR part 82 subpart F.
