Position Summary
The Director of Shelter Operations serves as a key leader within the Shelter Management Team overseeing essential functions such as safety food service and lodging across all shelter and overflow locations. This position ensures effective staff supervision and scheduling to maintain a safe respectful and inclusive shelter environment for all individuals seeking assistance.
Some of the duties include:
- Oversee daily shelter operations including food services front desk security laundry maintenance transportation and scheduling
- Support the Family Overflow Supervisor with scheduling staffing training and overall management of the family overflow shelter
- Foster a respectful and supportive shelter environment by actively participating in resident engagement initiatives including Shelter Solutions Committee meetings
- Lead supervise and support a diverse team of staff in accordance with established organizational policies procedures and expectations.
- Collaborate with the Grievance Coordinator to address and resolve grievances including reviewing bans and determining eligibility for return
- Maintain appropriate staffing levels through effective workforce planning recruitment scheduling and accurate timekeeping practices
- Ensure Operations staff remain compliant with all required training in collaboration with the Facility Director and Human Resources
- Assist with budget development and oversee Operations-related expenditures including supply purchasing and processing check requests
- Ensure Operations staff are properly trained in and effectively utilize the shelter data management system.
- Serve as the shelters representative in engagements with stakeholders encompassing local businesses partners and volunteer groups both during onsite walkthroughs and events as well as within the broader community
- Understand and support Housing First Philosophy
- Embrace the philosophy of maintaining a low-demand high-expectations program
Qualifications
Our ideal candidate has a Bachelors Degree or equivalent relevant experience along with a minimum of 5 years experience working with people experiencing homelessness veterans people with substance use disorders people with re-entry backgrounds and/or other relevant social service populations. The candidate must demonstrate strong communication skills and attention to detail. A minimum of two years of experience in shelter operations safety and security is preferred.
