Position Overview

Reports to: Project Director

Direct Report(s): Project Coordinator(s)


Durwest is seeking a Senior Project Manager to lead a major project at Victoria International Airport (YYJ).


This is a large-scale infrastructure project requiring leadership across multiple stakeholders complex coordination and execution within an active operational environment. As the Senior Project Manager you will take full ownership of the project from preconstruction through to completion ensuring it is delivered safely on time and within budget while maintaining strong relationships with clients consultants and trade partners.


This role is ideal for an experienced leader who thrives in complex environments brings a strategic mindset to project delivery and is motivated by the opportunity to lead a flagship project that contributes to Durwests continued growth and reputation.


Key Focus Areas

Project Leadership & Ownership

  • Lead all phases of the YYJ project from preconstruction through closeout with full accountability for schedule budget and execution strategy
  • Act as the primary point of contact and trusted advisor to the client and key stakeholders
  • Provide strong leadership to the project team including mentorship and development of Project Coordinator(s)
  • Maintain a consistent on-site presence driving progress resolving issues and ensuring alignment across all parties
  • Lead project closeout including commissioning deficiencies turnover documentation and client handover



Contract & Commercial Management

  • Lead contract administration across Construction Management and General Contracting structures (CCDC 2 5A 5B)
  • Oversee contract negotiation scope alignment and change management in collaboration with the Project Director
  • Ensure timely and accurate management of RFIs shop drawings site instructions and project documentation
  • Own the change management process ensuring financial and schedule impacts are properly managed and approved



Financial Leadership & Cost Control

  • Own project financial performance including budgets forecasting cost tracking and reporting
  • Lead procurement strategy and trade partner selection ensuring alignment on scope pricing and performance expectations
  • Contribute to preconstruction planning including budgeting value engineering and cost optimization
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with trade partners to ensure accountability and project success



Scheduling & Execution Strategy

  • Lead development and management of detailed project schedules in collaboration with the Superintendent and Project Director
  • Identify and mitigate risks proactively adjusting execution strategy as required
  • Drive efficiency and continuous improvement across all phases of the project



Stakeholder Coordination

  • Lead coordination with airport authorities consultants municipalities and utility providers
  • Navigate a complex stakeholder environment with professionalism clarity and confidence
  • Ensure consistent transparent communication with all project stakeholders



Safety Quality & Compliance

  • Set and maintain a high standard for safety quality and compliance
  • Foster a culture of accountability professionalism and teamwork across the project team and trade partners

Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Post-secondary education in Construction Management Civil Engineering Architecture or a related field or an equivalent experience.
  • 5 years of experience in construction management and/or general contracting with a strong track record of successful project delivery and client satisfaction including experience in the commercial sector.
    • Field experience is considered an asset.
  • Demonstrated experience leading project teams and managing multiple stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage and maintain strong relationships with high-value clients including navigating complex expectations and competing priorities while maintaining trust and long-term partnership.
  • Experience (and ability) working in regulated or high-security environments (e.g. airports healthcare institutional) is an asset.
  • Proficiency with construction management software;Procore experience is an asset.
