Little Viking Employee Child Care Receptionist/Bookkeeper

Little Vikings is a DSS-licensed childcare center seeking a dependable and organized team member to support administrative operations while assisting with daily childcare needs. This role combines clerical responsibilities with hands-on support in maintaining a safe nurturing and well-managed environment for children and staff.

TITLE: Receptionist/Bookkeeper at Little Vikings

QUALIFICATIONS:All candidates must be cleared through the Department of Social Services (DSS) and complete all required documentation and qualifications necessary for a DSS staff file prior to employment.

Experience working with young children (infants through preschool) preferred. Degree in Early Childhood related content coursework in early learning or knowledge of early childhood development principles preferred. Ability to work effectively as part of a team. Strong communication and interpersonal skills are important. Ability to meet physical demands of the position including lifting children and standing for extended periods. High school diploma or GED required. Must pass required background checks per South Carolina Department of Social Services and Spartanburg School District 7 requirements.

REPORTS TO: Coordinator of Early Learning Programs

TERMS: 195 days

JOB GOALS: Spartanburg School District 7 is seeking a caring dependable and qualified Child Care Worker to provide a safe nurturing and developmentally appropriate learning environment for children ages infant through four years old. This center exclusively serves the children of Spartanburg School District 7 staff members and supports early childhood development through high-quality care and positive relationships.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Attends meetings as required; records prepares and distributes meeting notes and assists with preparing agendas.
  2. Prepares types copies files and distributes routine and confidential correspondence forms records and reports while maintaining confidentiality.
  3. Performs general clerical duties such as copying filing collating materials maintaining logs and mailing lists processing incoming and outgoing mail and ordering supplies.
  4. Answers telephones provides accurate information to callers and directs calls as appropriate.Creates a warm and welcoming first impression for parents and others visiting Little Vikings greets visitors and provides professional customer service.
  5. Maintains records with accuracy and confidentiality including child enrollment records staff files attendance records and other required documentation in compliance with DSS regulations.
  6. Supports basic bookkeeping tasks such as tracking payments maintaining records processing invoices and assisting with financial documentation as needed.
  7. Performs computer data entry and generates reports as required.
  8. Assists with enrollment processes including registering new children and maintaining up-to-date records.
  9. Coordinates scheduling needs such as arranging staff coverage when needed.
  10. Responds to inquiries from staff parents/guardians and the public in a professional and timely manner.
  11. Receives reviews and processes various documents including childcare records attendance logs billing information reports and compliance documentation.
  12. Operates standard office equipment such as computers printers copiers phones and other administrative tools.
  13. Provides childcare support as needed including assisting in classrooms supervising children andcovering classrooms during teacher breaks and absencesto ensure proper staff-to-child ratios are maintained at all times.
  14. Maintains a clean safe and organized environment in accordance with DSS standards.

Must have the ability to comprehend and interpret received information and the ability to comprehend and implement basic office machinery functions.
  • Verbal Aptitude: Requires the ability to record and deliver information to explain procedures to follow oral and written instructions. Must be able to communicate effectively and efficiently with persons of varying educational and cultural backgrounds.
  • Form/Spatial Aptitude: Requires the ability to inspect items for proper length width and shape and visually read various information.
  • Motor Coordination: Requires the ability to coordinate hands and eyes rapidly and accurately in using automated office equipment and communications machinery.
  • Manual Dexterity: Requires the ability to handle a variety of items including computer keyboards office equipment control knobs switches etc. Must have minimal levels of eye/hand/foot coordination.
  • Color Discrimination: Requires the ability to differentiate between colors and shades of color.
  • Interpersonal Temperament: Requires the ability to deal with people beyond giving and receiving instructions. Must be adaptable to performing under moderate stress when confronted with an emergency or tight deadline. The worker is subject to tension as a regular consistent part of the job.
  • Physical Communication: Requires the ability to talk and hear: (talking: expressing or exchanging ideas by means of spoken words; hearing: perceiving nature of sounds by ear). Must be able to hear and understand communications through a telephone.
