Job Summary
The Air National Guards federal mission is to maintain well-trained well-equipped units available for prompt mobilization during war and aid during national emergencies (such as natural disasters or civil disturbances). As an employee of the State of Montanas Department of Military Affairs you will work as a key supporting member at the Air National Guard Base Building Maintenance in Great Falls.
We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Direct Digital Control (DDC) Technician to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for monitoring diagnosing maintaining and repairing our facilitys HVAC and related mechanical systems through our advanced Building Automation System (BAS). This role is critical to ensuring the operational efficiency safety and comfort of our facilities.
Key Responsibilities
- System Monitoring Diagnostics Install and Repair (55%):
- Utilize the Building Automation System (BAS) to continuously monitor HVAC and mechanical systems read pressure/temperature indicators and identify operational issues.
- Perform daily diagnostics to detect system failures gather data for maintenance planning and provide analysis / troubleshooting
- Develop and implement custom reports and automated alarm actions within the BAS (e.g. alerts for critical temperature drops).
- Manage electronic schedules for building and room usage to optimize energy consumption and facility access.
- Become the resident subject matter expert on the COIN v3 control platform.
- Hands-On Maintenance & Repair (40%):
- Conduct on-site investigations into issues with control systems and their connectivity to mechanical equipment.
- Diagnose the root cause of malfunctions and perform necessary repairs or replacements of failed controllers and components.
- Assist with retro commissioning of existing building systems
- Estimate costs and review bids for HVAC construction projects.
- Other Duties (5%):
- Provide backup and support for other team members as needed.
- Participate in an on-call rotation with MANG state craftsman.
- Engage in ongoing training and professional development to stay current with industry best practices.

Minimum Qualifications:
Education:Certificate or associate degree from technical and trade schools or community colleges that offer programs in heating air conditioning and refrigeration or job experience.
Experience:Five years of work-related experience.
Other combinations of education and experience may be substituted.
Conditions of Employment:Must be able to successfully pass a background check. You must possess a valid drivers license.
Ideal Candidate Profile:
- Proven experience working with Building Automation Systems (BAS) and Direct Digital Controls (DDC).
- Strong knowledge of HVAC principles and related mechanical systems.
- Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and diagnose complex technical issues.
- Experience with creating schedules reports and alarms in a BAS environment.
- Hands-on experience repairing and replacing control system components.
- Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
- Willingness and ability to participate in an on-call schedule.
