The TAFE NSW Manufacturing Centres of Excellence (MCoE)are National Centres of Excellence a joint initiative between the Australian Government and NSW Government under the National Skills Agreement.

MCoEs are an innovative education model to tackle the manufacturing skills challenge for NSW and Australia. Located in Western Sydney the Hunter and the Illawarra each centre specialises in different areas. These include advanced manufacturing with robotics and 3D printing supporting clean energy in net zero manufacturing and sustainable manufacturing practices supporting the heavy manufacturing industry and supporting new and existing workforce build the skills they need for the future.

By partnering with other CoEs TAFEs universities and industry these nationally networked centres ensure training aligns with real-world job requirements. The MCoEs offer short courses microskills and will soon deliver higher apprenticeships to help individuals become job-ready or enhance their skills for future opportunities.

About the role

TAFE NSW is seeking an experienced Senior Technical Officer to join the Manufacturing Centre of Excellence (MCoE) team based at the Wollongong campus. This is a temporary full-time position with an appointment extending until 30 June 2028.

In this role you will play a key part in supporting the delivery of high-quality student-focused learning across Skills Teams. You will provide advanced technical and classroom support manage ancillary services and ensure the effective use maintenance and safety of physical assets and resources.

During the initial phase of the role you will contribute to the establishment of MCoE facilities including the installation commissioning and testing of machinery and equipment. You will also provide leadership through mentoring and training technical staff coordinating maintenance and repair activities and supporting continuous improvement initiatives.

Working closely with senior staff and your line manager you will help foster a safe inclusive and efficient learning environment aligned with TAFE NSWs values and its commitment to educational excellence innovation and student success.

Please note: This position requires flexibility to travel between the three MCoE campuses as required Newcastle Tighes Hill Wetherill Park & Wollongong.

About You

You are a proactive and highly capable technical professional with a strong background in supporting hands-on skills-based learning environments. You take pride in delivering high-quality technical and classroom support and are motivated by opportunities to lead problem-solve and make a meaningful contribution to positive student outcomes.

You bring demonstrated experience in managing and maintaining specialist equipment coordinating technical staff and ensuring workshops laboratories and teaching spaces operate safely efficiently and in line with best practice. You are organised and adaptable with the ability to balance competing priorities communicate clearly with educators and students and remain calm and effective in fast-paced or pressure-driven environments.

To be eligible for this role you will have:

  • Relevant skills knowledge and experience or Diploma Advanced Diploma or Associate Degree in a relevant discipline

Highly Regarded (not essential):

  • Experience in establishing or managing manufacturing training facilities.
  • A genuine interest in advanced manufacturing. Candidates are not expected to have experience in all areas; interest or capability in one or more of the following is sufficient: robotics automation programming renewable energy or additive and subtractive manufacturing.
  • Knowledge of artificial intelligence applications in manufacturing and the integration of digital technologies in educational settings.
  • Excellent communication stakeholder engagement and problem-solving skills.
