QUALIFICATIONS:
Candidate must be a graduate of an accredited college or university. Candidate must possess a current Virginia teaching license or be eligible to possess a Virginia teaching license. Music: Music education Vocal/Choral PreK-12Endorsement required.
SUMMARY:
A middle school music teacher provides instruction in vocal and/or instrumental music fosters creativity and builds students understanding of music theory performance and appreciation across diverse genres.
We are looking for a candidate who can plan and deliver engaging music lessons aligned with state and district standards. This individual will be able to teach general music choir band or other program needs (depends on teacher endorsement area).
We currently have students enrolled in band and choir courses for the 2026-2027 school year. If a candidate has additional musical endorsements we are open to exploring additional musical programs we can offer here at Shelburne Middle School.
Based on current offerings for the 2026-2027 school year the music teacher would be responsible for teaching chorus to middle school students and assisting the band director with instrumental instruction and program logistics. This dual role requires a broad musical background including vocal pedagogy and instrumental proficiency.
Core Chorus Responsibilities (current class offerings)
- Instructional Delivery: Plan and implement standards-based choral lessons focusing on vocal technique music literacy and choral artistry
- Ensemble Direction: Rehearse and direct various choirs for school concerts community events and state assessments.
- Repertoire Selection: Choose diverse and developmentally appropriate music that challenges students and aligns with curriculum goals.
- Student Assessment: Evaluate individual vocal growth and ensemble performance providing constructive feedback.
- Extracurricular Activities: Provide support for musical theater vocal direction audition preparation collaborative choir rehearsals and honors choir events as needed.
Band Assistant Responsibilities (current class offerings)
- Instrumental Support: Assist the head director with sectional rehearsals for woodwinds brass or percussion.
- Performance Support: Help prepare students for large group evaluations solo/ensemble contests and auditions.
- Administrative Duties: Maintain music libraries manage instrument and uniform inventories and assist with transportation or logistics for trips.
- Extracurricular Help: Support after-school activities like pep band jazz band or musical theater pit orchestra as needed.
