Job Summary
The Engineering Department (EN) provides CERN with the Engineering expertise Infrastructure Systems and Coordination necessary for the design installation operation maintenance and dismantling phases of the CERN accelerator complex and its experimental facilities.
The position is within the Accelerator Coordination and Engineering (EN-ACE) group which coordinates the activities for the interventions and changes to the accelerators complex. As a Planning and Scheduling Engineer in EN-ACE you will plan and coordinate a wide range of equipment-related activities across CERNs current and future accelerator complex.
You will collaborate closely with domain experts to develop practical solutions for the installation and maintenance of complex equipment contributing to the Engineering Departments mission of supporting the full lifecycle of CERNs infrastructure and future projects.
Your responsibilities:
- Plan and coordinate all installation and maintenance activities for the different accelerators ensuring all activities are carried out within agreed overall schedule.
- Prepare all supporting documentation and liaise between the stakeholders.
- Manage the impact of operational problems affecting the installation and maintenance work on the schedule in order to minimise any delays.
- Identify and resolve conflicting co-activity issues with the stakeholders concerned and/or the Project Leaders.
- In collaboration with the relevant Safety Coordinator ensure that all safety concerns related to the installation work are identified and that the relevant safety rules procedures are applied.
- This job includes interventions in underground installations and requires a valid driving license
Your profile:
- Experience in project management coordination and planning of workflow on large experimental and/or industrial facilities preferably: maintenance repairs installations and upgrades projects.
- Exposure to or understanding of risk management would be an asset.
- Some experience with stakeholder relationships and/or negotiations would be an asset.
Skills:
- Competencies in Project Management coordination and planning.
- Knowledge of project scheduling and management tools (e.g. MS Project Oracle Primavera MS PowerBI VBA Python knowledge in database management).
- Ability to communicate clearly and proactively with technical stakeholders and management.
- Some technical knowledge of engineering systems would be an asset.
- Spoken and written English or French with a commitment to learn the other language.
Eligibility criteria:
- You are a national of a CERN Member or Associate Member State.
- You have a professional background in Mechanical / Industrial Engineering (or a related field) and have either:
- a Masters degree with 2 to 6 years of post-graduation professional experience;
- or a PhD with no more than 3 years of post-graduation professional experience.
- You have never had a CERN fellow or graduate contract before.
Additional Information :

Contract duration: 24 months with a possible extension up to 36 months maximum.
Working hours: 40 hours per week

This position involves:
- Participation in a regular stand-by duty including nights Sundays and official holidays.
- Work in Radiation Areas.
- Interventions in underground installations.
