Under the direction of the primary care operations team the Primary Care Patient Care MA works directly with Mercy Primary Care Providers to provide safe timely effective efficient equitable patient-centered care in a systematic way. The Primary Care Patient Care MA will partner with patients providers and other members of the clinical care team to drive quality outcomes for all patients. Duties and responsibilities will be performed in a manner consistent with our mission values and Mercy Service Standards.

Overview of the Role

Youll support patient care by preparing patients for their visit and partnering closely with providers and the clinical care team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Entering chief complaints taking vital signs and reviewing patient history & allergies

  • Completing medication reconciliation

  • Working the Encounter Guide to help close care gaps including:

    • Fall risk

    • Depression screening

    • Breast & colorectal cancer screening

    • Diabetic eye exams

  • Rechecking elevated blood pressures

  • Completing documentation in Epic for annual preventive visits

  • Assisting with in-office testing including:

    • Blood draws

    • EKGs

    • Mental status exams

    • Walking oxygen studies

    • Pointofcare testing

  • Administering vaccines and injections (within scope)

  • Scheduling followup appointments

  • Collaborating with providers to coordinate patient care plans

Qualifications

Primary Care Assistant Medical Assistant

  • Education: High School Diploma or GED

  • Certification: BLS within 90 days of hire

  • Preferred Experience: 6 months in a clinical healthcare setting (primary care preferred)

Primary Care Certified Medical Assistant

  • Education: High School Diploma or GED

  • Certification: Active MA certification/registration (RMA CCMA CMA)

  • BLS: Required within 90 days of hire

LPN Qualifications

  • Education: Diploma in Practical Nursing

  • Licensure: Active LPN license

  • Preferred Experience: 6 months clinical experience (primary care preferred)
