The Opportunity
St. Thomas University invites applications for the position of Varsity Athletic Therapist Department of Athletics and Recreation for the 2026-27 season (37 weeks; August 11 2026 to April 23 2027).
The Varsity Athletics Therapist is responsible for the overall health and welfare of varsity athletes and teams with a particular emphasis on prevention assessment and treatment as well as coverage for practices games tournaments and championships.
NOTE: While the position is set for 37 weeks efforts are being made to establish a partnership with a local clinic and/or develop an arrangement internally wherein the successful candidate could be employed through the summer months as well. No guarantee can currently be made but the intention is to solidify an arrangement prior to April 2027.

Responsibilities
This position is responsible for providing direct athletic focused therapeutic care in collaboration and consultation with other athletic therapists health care providers and team physicians and will commit a minimum of twenty (20) hours per week in the competitive seas to an athletic therapy clinic for STU student-athletes in the J.B. OKeefe Fitness Centre.
This role will be required to communicate with coaches athletics administration and team trainers with respect to player health issues as well as conduct all related administrative tasks such as documenting athletes treatment or referral managing online medical forms providing updates on the status of student-athlete training and ensuring that student-athletes are cleared for play.
This position will provide home game coverage to or manage therapist coverage for our varsity teams and may (if needed) travel with teams to championships when possible. The position is also responsible to recruit train and manage student therapists to help with teams.
Compensation will be commensurate with education and experience. It is important to note that due to the varied nature of university athletics and game day operations the successful candidate must be available evenings and weekend. Travel to games tournaments and championships may be required (travel costs are covered).
What youll need
Qualifications
- Bachelors degree or higher in Athletic Therapy Kinesiology Sports Medicine or a related field from an accredited institution.
- Certification as a Certified Athletic Therapist (CAT(C)) or equivalent certification from a recognized governing body (e.g. CAT NATABOC); OR certification as Physiotherapist preferably with a specialization in Sport Physiotherapy.
- Current First Aid certification.
- Experience and certification in concussion management protocol is required.
- Additional relevant certifications (e.g. RMT) would be considered an asset.
