Essential Functions

Must adhere to the Career Education and Technical program standards set by the Superintendent of Public Instruction for Career and Technical Education in Washington State which include but are not limited to:

  • Provide student leadership opportunities for further growth and professionaldevelopment including advising CTSOs or local equivalent
  • Lead and/or participate in CTE Advisory Committee meetings
  • Attend state-sponsored required workshops and conferences
  • Articulate classes with post-secondary education when possible
  • Develop and maintain business partnerships
  • Design learning experiences and assessments that allow students to demonstrate learning
  • Provide opportunities for students to achieve industry certifications
  • Support the development of an environment where all students and staff feel a strong sense of belonging validated and accepted:
  1. Leads for equity toward college and career readiness.
  2. Nurtures a school environment that celebrates respects and values diversity where teaching and learning are made relevant and meaningful to students of various cultures.
  3. Publicly draws attention to all equity gaps that exist for various groups of students with plans to address their elimination.
  4. Initiates activities and discussions that lead to increased cultural competence of staff informing and expanding teaching practices within classrooms.
  • Teach to district approved course goals and objectives (course framework).
  • Evaluations of the individual student and the appropriate reporting of student progress.
  • Instruct students in citizenship and subject matter specified by state law and administrative regulations of the school district.
  • Provide individual and group instruction so that each student can achieve scholastic educational objectives.
  • Identify student needs and cooperate with other professional staff members in assessing and helping students solve health attitude and learning problems.
  • Participate cooperatively with the appropriate administrator in the evaluation process in conformance with the approved district guidelines.
  • Develop and use instructional materials suitable for the instruction of students with wide ranges of mental physical social and emotional maturation.
  • Establish and maintain the standard of student behavior needed to achieve effective participation in all activities.
  • Evaluate intellectual and social growth of students and keep appropriate records.
  • Communicate with parents. Hold parent conferences to discuss the individual students progress.
  • Maintain records and submit reports as required or appropriate.
  • Participate in curricular and other developmental programs as required.
  • Participate in faculty committees and the sponsorship of student activities.
  • Create an effective and interactive classroom environment (both live and digital) for learning.
  • Subscribe to the notion student success is a teachers paramount responsibility.
  • Supervise students in out-of-classroom activities during assigned periods.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements: Minimum Qualifications

Skills Knowledge and Abilities

SKILLS are required to perform single technical tasks with a need to occasionally upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skills required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: controlling and motivating students; maintaining accurate records; and using pertinent software applications; adhering to safety practices; operating standard office equipment.

KNOWLEDGE is required to perform algebra and/or geometry; read a variety of manuals write documents following prescribed formats and/or present information to others; and solve practical problems. Specific knowledge required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job includes: knowledge of state and federal laws that govern school districts age appropriate activities stages of child development and safety practices and procedures.

ABILITY is required to schedule activities and/or meetings; gather collate and/or classify data; and use basic job-related equipment. Flexibility is required to work independently or with others in a wide variety of circumstances; to work with data utilizing defined but different processes; and to operate equipment using defined methods. Ability is also required to work with a significant diversity of individuals and/or groups; to work with similar types of data; and to utilize specific job-related equipment. Independent problem solving is required to analyze issues and create action plans. Problem solving with data requires analysis based on organizational objectives; and problem solving with equipment is moderate to significant. Specific abilities required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: must be trained in advanced placement art; fostering positive relationships; communicating with diverse groups; maintaining confidentiality; meeting deadlines and schedules; working as part of a team; and working with frequent interruptions.

Responsibility

Responsibilities include: working under limited supervision using standardized practices and/or methods; directing other persons within a small work unit; and operating within a defined budget. Utilization of some resources from other work units may be required to perform the jobs functions. There is a continual opportunity to significantly impact the organizations services.

Working Environment

The usual and customary methods of performing the jobs functions require the following physical demands: Generally the job requires 10% sitting 50% walking and 40% standing. The job is performed in a generally clean and healthy environment.

Experience:

  • Demonstrated experience in the field of Family and Consumer Sciences
  • Demonstrated successful teaching experience with middle school students preferred
  • Demonstrated experience and knowledge in FACS National Standards

Education: Bachelors degree or Work Experience per RCW

Certificated & License Requirements

  • Must hold a Washington State Career and Technical Education (CTE) teaching certificate related to Family & Consumer Sciences (V190707 or V200002) or be eligible for CTE certification by demonstrating a minimum of three years of gainful employment (non-teaching) in a variety of Family and Consumer Science roles two years of experience within the last six years is preferred
  • Valid First Aid/CPR Certificate
