PhD scholarship in Terrestrial Gravimetry with Quantum Technology DTU Space

The division of Geodesy and Earth Observation (GEO) at DTU Space is looking for a PhD student to engage in our long-term activities on terrestrial gravimetry. The division owns an A10 absolute gravimeter and has annual tasks to measure and maintain the geodetic networks in Denmark and Greenland in collaboration with the Agency for Climate Data. The PhD will be part of these core activities and receive training in operating the A10 instrument.

Responsibilities and qualifications
The PhD will be involved in the EU-Horizon project EQUIP-G aiming to foster a European wide community on quantum gravimetry including organized measurement workshops and international events. One of the responsibilities of DTU Space is to demonstrate that quantum gravimetry can be used to monitor climate changes including two field campaigns to Ilulissat in Greenland in collaboration with international partners.

The position requires involvement in our annual work programme with the Climate Data Agency regarding maintenance and development of national geodetic networks in Denmark and Greenland. The PhD will receive training in the operation and processing of the A10 instrument and is expected to participate in field activities in both areas.

Additionally the position represents a significant component of DTUs involvement in the EQUIP-G project concerning quantum gravimetry in collaboration with many international partners. The PhD is thus expected to participate in project meetings and events and contribute to the success of the project. The PhD will participate in training workshops on quantum gravimetry and participate in a field campaign to Ilulissat planned for summer 2028 together with project partners.

You must have a two-year masters degree (120 ECTS points) or a similar degree with an academic level equivalent to a two-year masters degree.

Approval and Enrolment

Salary and appointment terms
The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed upon with the relevant union. The period of employment is 3 years.
