Job Summary

POSITION OBJECTIVE:

The job of Health Services Coordinatoris to support the Executive Director ofInclusion & Accessibility in overseeing the individual health needs of students support for special education services and programs and provide leadership for certificated and classified staff.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: (These duties are a representative sample; position assignments may vary.)


Collaborates with district nurses occupational therapists physical therapists parents students health care providers and/or other agencies for the purpose of promoting needed treatment securing information and complying with legal requirements.
Provides oversight and consultation in the development establishment implementation and evaluation of program goals objectives and procedures for a coordinated student health services model that prioritizes student health services and promotes mental and physical health.
Supports implementation of the Districts student health services program.
Develops and facilitates services in conjunction with Principals community partnerships and other programs to meet the health needs of students and families.
Ensures current health trends are incorporated and coordinated as they relate to an urban setting within a culturally diverse community.
Provides coaching support for nurses on writing individual health plans and 504 Plans and special educators on writing special education plans
Supports special educators in case management leading an IEP team effectively using paraeducator supports facilitating difficult conversations etc.
Collects and analyzes student school and program data for continuous improvement
Directly supports nurses occupational and physical therapists in effectively implementing health and related services students receiving special education services
Coordinates articulations i.e. into/out of the district between placements between grade levels etc.
Participates in plans and/or facilitates department/district level meetings
Participates in plans and/or facilitates health-related educational offerings for families staff and the community
Collaborates with other key district teams in support of students with disabilities and health needs such as teaching and learning curriculum developers transportation multi-language learning facilitators etc.
Supports implementation and reporting of key state district and department strategic priorities
Leads department/district wide initiatives as needed
Researches and remains abreast of health services and school-based therapy issues programs and needs and of state and national trends in health services and special education such as inclusionary practices Universal Design for Learning disproportionality etc.
Collaborates with educational institutions to provide practicum sites for basic and advanced degree candidates.
Maintains current knowledge of laws theory research and practice that affect school health services.
Supports district nurses and other staff to assess situations involving students safety abuse (physical sexual drug) and other health related issues for the purpose of identifying problems referring for proper treatment and complying with legal requirements.
Supports district nurses to report students with contagious diseases to local public health authorities for the purpose of minimizing infection and complying with the law.
Working independently under broad organizational policies to achieve organizational objectives.

Leading guiding and/or coordinating others

Operating within a defined budget.

Supports the Director of Health Services to prioritize project deadlines and ensure optimal utilization of personnel.
Performs other job-related duties as required.

Other Functions

Participates in a variety of meetings workshops and seminars (e.g. local/state health meetings programs) for the purpose of sharing information and/or improving skills/knowledge.

Provides training on a variety of health-related subjects for the purpose of acting as a resource to nurses students teachers and other school personnel.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE (positions in this class typically require):

Required:

Bachelors degree in nursing or higher First Aid/CPR

Job related experience is required

LICENSING REQUIREMENTS (positions in this class typically require):


Possess or qualify for immediate issuance of a valid Washington State Nurse License Educational Staff Associate certification

KNOWLEDGE (position requirements at entry):

Required to perform advanced math; review and interpret highly technical information write technical
materials and/or speak persuasively to implement desired actions; and analyze situations to define issues and draw
conclusions. Specific knowledge required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job includes: age appropriate
activities computer operation/skills health standards for the school setting pertinent codes policies regulations and/or laws safety practices and procedures stages of child development working knowledge of the school system.

SKILLSAND ABILITIES(position requirements at entry):

Specific skills required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: adhering to
safety practices administering first aid handling hazardous materials operating equipment used for cleaning operating standard office equipment preparing and maintaining accurate records promoting child centered environment record keeping.

Ability is required to schedule a significant number of activities meetings and/or events; often gather collate and/or classify data; and consider a variety of factors when using equipment. Flexibility is required to work with others in a wide variety of circumstances; analyze data utilizing defined but different processes; and operate equipment using a variety of processes. Ability is also required to work with a diversity of individuals and/or groups; work with a variety of data; and utilize a variety of types of job-related working with others problem solving is required to analyze issues and create action plans. Problem solving with data requires independent interpretation of guidelines; and problem solving with equipment is moderate to significant. Specific abilities required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: adapting to changing work priorities communicating with diverse groups communicating with students establishing effective relationships maintaining confidentiality meeting deadlines and schedules working as part of a team.


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:


The usual and customary methods of performing the jobs functions require the following physical demands: significant lifting carrying pushing and/or pulling; significant climbing and balancing; significant stooping kneeling crouching and/or crawling; and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 60% sitting 20% walking and 20% standing. The job is performed under some temperature extremes and some hazardous conditions.


Incumbents may be subjected to moving mechanical parts odors chemicals extreme temperatures inadequate lighting workspace restrictions and intense noises.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

$ 73990 to $ 138754 annual salary will be prorated based on FTE (based on the negotiated collective bargaining agreement salary schedule). Certificated staff work the school year contract with placement on the District and BEA bargaining agreement salary schedule. Placement on the schedule is determined by training and experience.


Medical dental vision long-term disability and life-insurance eligibility is based upon .45 FTE. Retirement provided through Washington State Department of Retirement Systems.
