How does our Traineeship program work
As a Trainee Water Quality Analystyoulljoin a supportive laboratory team that plays a critical role in protecting public healthwaterwaysand the environment. With guidance and mentoringyoullassistin collecting and analysing samples from a range of environments using laboratoryequipmentand following established procedures. No prior laboratory experience isrequired just a genuine interest in science waterqualityand a willingness to learn.
This traineeship provides a practical introduction to water quality monitoring covering both fieldwork and laboratory aCertificate III in Laboratory Skills through TAFEwhile gaining hands on paid experience supported by structured learning and mentoring. The programmayinclude rotationswhich could be acrossLaboratory Biology Laboratory ChemistryorField Sampling giving you broad exposure to laboratory part of this role you willbe requiredto undertake a Certificate III in Laboratory Skills throughTAFEGranvillewithin your first 18 months. This involves attending TAFE one day per week working on site for four days and completing required coursework in your own position is offered as a 24monthfixedtermtraineeship offering a base salary ofEA 1A $62803.95 plus superannuation and an accrued rostered day off (RDO) every 19 days.
Your key responsibilities include:
- Complete a Certificate III in Laboratory Skills through TAFE while undertaking the traineeship
- Collectprepareand analyse environmental samples including watersoiland sediment
- Receiveregisterand process samplesin accordance withestablished laboratory procedures
- Assistwith laboratory analyses using a range of equipment and systems under supervision
- Accurately record data andmaintainrecords using the Laboratory Information Management System
- Support safe laboratory and field operations by following safety procedures and reporting hazards or incidents
- Assistwith field sampling activities and learn correct sampling techniques
- Work collaboratively as part of a laboratory team and rotate across different work areas asrequired
Experience and Qualifications:
- A genuine interest in science water quality and environmental monitoring
- Willingness and ability to undertake and successfully complete a Certificate III in Laboratory Skills as part of the traineeship
- Ability to follow instructions procedures and safe work practices
- Awareness of workplace health and safety requirements and a commitment toworking safely at all times
- Basic computer skills including the ability to use common software and digital systems (e.g. Microsoft Office tablets mobile devices)
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to accurately record information and data
- Effective communication skills and the ability to work cooperatively as part of a team
- Reliability time management skills and the ability to complete tasks within agreedtimeframes
