Job Summary
Working with the Student Health and Wellbeing unit as part of the Health Equity Promotion and Education team the Coordinator Food Nutrition and Food Security is responsible for supporting student wellbeing and success through health education and/or health promotion initiatives programs and projects with the Okanagan Charter for Health Promoting Universities and Colleges as a key guiding framework. The Coordinator is responsible for designing delivering and assessing evidence-based approaches to support food literacy food skill and food security for students. The Coordinator will oversee the Food Hub Market a student led volunteer run food security initiative to provide low cost groceries to the UBC student community improve food literacy and amplify other food security initiatives.

Organizational Status
Working within the Student Health & Wellbeing portfolio the Health Equity Promotion & Education team which oversees the Wellness Centre Food Hub Market and the Student Recovery Community is responsible for health education and health promotion initiatives that enhance health and wellbeing for individual students and for communities of students at UBC. Reporting to either the Manager or Director Health Equity Promotion and Education the Coordinator supervises student staff and student volunteers.

Work Performed
Administration and Operations:

Provide leadership and management for the day-to-day operations of the Food Hub Market in collaboration with student position(s) volunteers and committees. Specific duties include but are not limited to the following:

Lead volunteer recruitment training scheduling and management

Oversight of food sourcing ordering inventory tracking and management for the Food Hub Market

Oversight of electronic payment handling budget & financial tracking & transaction reconciliation for the Food Hub Market

Troubleshooting day-to-day operational issues

Provide mentorship & facilitate learning opportunities to student volunteers Oversee and provide advice to volunteer committees within the Food Hub Market to support operations (potential committees may include: social media volunteer management operations programming)

Develop and/or implement plans for evaluating processes to streamline operations

Develop implement and update any food safety procedures as relevant

Inform and implement community engagement strategies to monitor and evaluate customer and volunteer feedback at the Food Hub Market

Develop maintain & update operational documents & procedural guidelines

Provide strategic oversight of programs and services to ensure the values of the Food Hub Market are integrated into all operations

Partnerships Community Building & Programming:

Build relationships with student communities most impacted by food insecurity and seek opportunities for engagement or collaboration within the space to promote food security social connection & cultural vibrance

Build capacity of partner units student groups & other stakeholders to lead programming in the space

Lead and participate in knowledge sharing activities including conferences reports presentations.

Contribute to research opportunities led by SEEDS CCEL VOICE and others as relevant

Other duties as assigned.

Consequence of Error/Judgement
They are a representative of VP Students with regards to the program and a member of community audiences and as such will be required to demonstrate a high degree of professionalism.

Supervision Received
Works independently under the general direction from a Manager or Director who will support the professional development and learning experience. The Coordinator will also have the opportunity to work with student staff team members volunteers and professional staff from the Health Equity Promotion & Education unit and key campus partners (e.g. CCEL UBC Sustainability Hub Office of Wellbeing Strategy etc).

Supervision Given

The Coordinator will recruit hire train and supervise student staff and student volunteers.

Minimum Qualifications
Undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline. Minimum of one to two years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience

- Willingness to respect diverse perspectives including perspectives in conflict with ones own

- Demonstrates a commitment to enhancing ones own awareness knowledge and skills related to equity diversity and inclusion

Preferred Qualifications

Passionate about food security food systems and/or food justice. This could be demonstrated by research done in the area having taken classes in the aforementioned topics and/or having lived experience with food insecurity

Understanding of the intersections of systemic oppression and commitment to equity diversity and inclusion with health and wellbeing (a decolonized lens anti-racism approaches etc)

Excellent interpersonal communication skills

Demonstrated organizational and time management skills

Demonstrated flexibility and a positive attitude when working in fast-paced complex and changing situations

Ability to adapt during busy work periods and to think critically and constructively about ideas to problem solve expected and unexpected issues that arise

Demonstrated ability to work independently and take initiative

Previous experience with the following are strong assets: o Customer service experience o Food service management or operations o Volunteer or team coordination o Project management including planning coordination implementation & evaluation o Community building community engagement o Building relationships with colleagues peers stakeholders within and outside familiar communities

FoodSafe Level 1 certification an asset
