Job Summary

The Department of Resource Economics invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor position expected to start on September 1 2026.

Essential Functions

Applicants should have a research focus in applied microeconomics and econometrics specifically in the area of environmental and natural resource economics (ENRE). Under exceptional circumstances highly qualified candidates at other ranks may receive consideration. The new hire is expected to develop a nationally recognized research agenda to add to the Departments ENRE research focus. Teaching responsibilities will include undergraduate and graduate courses in microeconomics econometrics and ENRE. A wide range of interdisciplinary research opportunities are available across the University of Massachusetts Amherst campus including through the Computational Social Sciences Initiative Energy Transition Initiative and the Institute for Social Science Research.

Minimum Qualifications

Applicants are required to have a Ph.D. in agricultural/resource/applied economics economics econometrics or a related field as of September 1 2026. Research complementarities with the departments other focus areas will be considered.

Additional Details

The Department of Resource Economics has 25 faculty approximately 500 undergraduate majors and 30 graduate students (70% are Ph.D. students). We place special emphasis on high quality research faculty-student interaction and cooperation among faculty. We share a fundamental commitment to teach and attract a diverse student body.

Working Conditions

Work is performed in a standard office or indoor university environment and involves minimal physical exertion.

Salary Information

The University of Massachusetts Amherst expects to pay within an approximate range between $85000 and $122000 for this position. Please note:

The low-end of the pay range in all faculty searches at the University of Massachusetts Amherst is the minimum salary for the rank included in the collective bargaining agreement between the University and the Massachusetts Society of Professors UMass Amherst/MTA/NEA.

The high-end of the pay range reflects an increase above the median of salaries at this rank within the department for faculty who may have multiple years of faculty experience.

The specific pay for this position will be determined by the University based on consideration of all relevant factors including faculty rank and required or relevant certifications when and if it decides to extend an offer of employment.
