Job Summary
The New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygienes Division of Environmental Health works to prevent and control illness and injury related to environmental and occupational health risks through outreach education surveillance and enforcement. With staff of 1000 the Division covers a broad range of subject matter including oversight of environmental investigations lead poisoning injury prevention occupational health food safety childcare radiation control recreational and drinking water quality air quality climate health vector control veterinary public health and pest control. The Bureau of Administration requires staff with strong attention to detail to manage program operations in a variety of areas including financial analysis performance management organizational strategy in times of expansion and contraction and program initiative implementation.
Duties will include but not be limited to:
Under the direction of the Assistant Commissioner for Environmental Health Administration with wide latitude for independent judgment initiative problem solving and creativity the Director of Program Operations will:
-Oversee performance management for the Division of Environmental Health with a focus on continual improvement quality assurance and efficiency. Working in collaboration with the Office of Strategic Operations and Performance Management Department Leadership and the Mayors Office of Operations.
-Coordinate 311 operations service request response analytics and strategy for the Division of Environmental Health.
-Track implementation of new program initiatives.
-Conduct planning for the Division to maintain core services in the event of a broad emergency activation.
-Collaborate with internal partners to innovate and improve including developing/tracking performance metrics to optimize operations.
-Representing Division of Environmental Health leadership in collaboration with City partners and external stakeholders.
PREFERRED SKILLS:
The ideal candidate will have significant experience managing complex operations; excellent judgment and creative problem-solving skills; and exceptional oral written and interpersonal skills. They will have knowledge of New York Citys administrative processes and will be an effective collaborator.

Qualifications :
1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university and five years of full-time paid experience acquired within the last fifteen years of supervisory or administrative experience including handling of business promotion or urban economic problems at least 2 years of which must have been in a managerial or executive capacity with primary focus on business promotion or urban economic planning; or
2. A satisfactory equivalent combination of education and experience. However all candidates must have 2 years of managerial or executive experience as described in 1 above.
Appropriate graduate study in an accredited college or university may be substituted for the general experience on a year-for-year basis. All candidates must have a four-year high school diploma or its equivalent approved by a States Department of Education or a recognized accrediting organization.
