Position Summary
The Instructional Support Technician II (IST II) provides support to the Departments Primary Service Center and in this capacity serves as primary purchasing agent for the Department. The IST II manages all Department course accounts equipment maintenance accounts and support service accounts and acts as the Department Hazardous Waste Materials Coordinator. The incumbent also provides lead work direction and training to Graduate Students and Student Assistants as necessary.
FLSA:Non-Exempt (Eligible for overtime compensation)
Anticipated Hiring Range:$4595 per month (Step 1) -$4780 per month (Step 3)
CSU Classification Salary Range: $4595 per month (Step 1) - $6694 per month (Step 20)
Salary step placement will be determined based on relevant qualifications and professional experience.

Department Information
The Department of Biological Sciences at Sacramento State is one of the largest programs on campus with approximately 1500 undergraduate and 60 Masters students 30 permanent faculty approximately 40 temporary faculty and 12 technical and administrative support team members. Most of the Department is located in the Tschannen ScienceComplex and courses cover the range of biology includingentomologyevolution microbiology molecular biology cellular biology genetics anatomy physiology ecology and conservation biology.

Knowledge and Abilities:
Knowledge of the principles of performing support services; knowledge of the principles methods and techniques related to the discipline and the curriculum; knowledge of the materials and supplies in the curriculum and the curriculum and their uses.
Ability to plan organize and schedule activities; ability to operate technical equipment related to the discipline; ability to maintain records; ability to adjust and perform simple maintenance of technical and scientific equipment.

Experience:
Equivalent to three years of experience providing instructional support services for a related unit or discipline or in producing materials or supplies or repairing equipment in a discipline related to the area to which assigned.

Equivalent to two years of college with 16 semester units in courses involving extensive use of materials supplies or equipment and in a discipline related to the area may be substituted for one year of the required experience.
or
Equivalent to four years of college with 16 semester units in courses involving extensive use of materials supplies or equipment and in a discipline related to the area to which assigned may be substituted for two years of the required experience.
RequiredQualifications
- Experience with managing department service centers.
- Experience with management and organization of inventory and records of supply use.
- Knowledge of biological and chemical options for equipment supplies and reagents for both teaching and research programs.
- Ability to work closely with faculty and staff to order purchase and procure supplies and biological equipment supporting teaching and research laboratories.
- Ability to coordinate between stockroom staff and faculty including willingness to provide occasional support outside usual business hours to accommodate needs of the department.
- Knowledge of and ability to manage stockroom inventories and interface with faculty and students across 4 buildings.
- Ability to provide technical support troubleshooting and diagnosis of equipment including laptop software updates.
- Ability to work with vendors faculty staff and students to manage physical and online chemical inventories.
- Experience with safely handling storing and disposing of chemicals and biohazardous waste.
- Experience with management of budgetary records course and research accounts equipment maintenance accounts and support service accounts.
- Ability to work independently and with departmental committees.
- Ability to act as a liaison with EH & S to ensure that safety protocols are developed and current and that monthly inspections are conducted and documentation maintained.
- Ability to perform basic computing including familiarity and ease with Microsoft Office 365 (e.g. Word Excel Outlook.).
