Company Introduction
This role is with a manufacturer headquartered in Merrimack County New Hampshire. The company designs and manufactures light measurement systems integrating spheres reflectance materials optical calibration solutions and specialty light sources used across aerospace and defense cosmetics and sun protection automotive and transportation LED and lighting image sensors medical and life science consumer electronics telecom and industrial photonics markets worldwide.
The company is in an active growth phase. With current annual revenue of approximately $50M and a three-year ambition to exceed $65M the Vice President of Sales and Marketing will define and execute the global commercial strategy and lead the companys next chapter of revenue growth market positioning and brand development.
Role Overview
The Vice President of Sales and Marketing is the senior commercial leader for the company reporting directly to the President. This is a hands-on execution-oriented role. You will own all commercial activities including sales marketing business development and customer service and will be accountable for revenue growth margin discipline market positioning brand stewardship and customer success across the US Europe and Asia.
This role demands true dual-discipline command. The successful candidate is equally credible in front of an engineering buyer talking specifications and in front of the senior team building the marketing plan the pricing strategy and the channel architecture. Strong sales without strong marketing is not a fit. Strong marketing without commercial acumen and quota ownership is not a fit.
The ideal candidate has done this before in an OEM or B2B technical sales environment has owned $100M in revenue and has led a global sales team of 10 or more. They lead a 21-person sales team distributed across the US (16) India (1) France (1) and China (3) and a marketing team consisting of one MarCom Director and three part-time consultants covering SEO creative and digital marketing.
The role engages customers at both the C-suite and the engineering and procurement levels and demands the energy and executive presence that customer-facing leadership requires.
Core Responsibilities
- Drive successful penetration across the companys three core strategic initiatives: Remote Sensing (aerospace and defense applications) Production Test (consumer electronics applications) and OEM (optical materials and technical light solutions)
- Develop and execute the global commercial strategy translating it into revenue margin and growth targets in alignment with overall business goals
- Evaluate the existing global commercial organization and refine structure and coverage where needed; lead mentor and develop the global sales team and partner network through effective sales processes pipeline disciplines performance metrics and forecasting accuracy
- Drive consistent achievement of revenue targets across the US Europe and Asia either directly or through a partner network
- Provide strategic marketing leadership across brand demand generation product marketing communications and digital directing the MarCom Director and external consultants to build the integrated campaigns and content engine that supports both sales execution and long-term market positioning
- Own pricing strategy margin discipline channel economics and commercial terms; balance revenue growth against profitability and protect the companys premium positioning
- Identify and pursue new markets applications partnerships and channels; lead market entry and expansion strategies including evaluation of acquisitions and strategic alliances where appropriate
- Build the customer service function as a strategic differentiator; implement strategies for retention account expansion and lifetime value
- Develop and own the commercial budget and forecast; deliver against revenue and margin commitments and report transparently on results
- Partner closely with Engineering Operations and Finance to ensure cohesive execution of the commercial strategy; anticipate and represent customer requirements during product development and roadmap discussions
- Maintain a current view of industry trends market conditions competitive dynamics and customer evolution; use insight to inform pricing positioning and roadmap decisions
- Build develop and retain a high-performing global commercial organization; set the cultural tone for the commercial team and represent the company with energy and presence in front of customers partners and the parent group
Required Background
- Commercial leadership experience at the VP level with true dual-discipline command of both sales and marketing; has owned both functions and is equally credible in each with a record of operating at that level (Director-level candidates with VP aspiration are not a fit)
- At least one role with $100M in revenue ownership with demonstrated commercial acumen including pricing margin management channel strategy and Profit and Loss exposure (preferred)
- Photonics or photonics-adjacent industry experience including lighting lasers optics image sensors or similar precision light-based technology markets; at minimum proven ability to lead a highly technical sales organization selling capital equipment and OEM solutions to engineering and procurement audiences
- OEM B2B or technical sales background; has sold engineered specification-driven products in industrial electronic or precision markets
- Direct team leadership of a sales organization of 10 or more with proven ability to build coach and retain commercial talent
- Proven sales and business experience across the United States Europe and Asia either directly or through a partner network
- Bachelors degree in a Science field Engineering Business Administration Marketing Finance or a related field
- High energy executive presence and customer-facing leadership style New England-based or documented relocation history to support strong onsite presence at the headquarters (Preferred)
- MBA or other advanced degree (Preferred)
- Industry background in industrial automation electrical or electronic manufacturing semiconductor optical instruments and photonics test and measurement advanced materials and coatings specialty technical chemicals or MRO distribution (Preferred)
- Experience scaling commercial organizations in the $100M to $1B revenue range (Preferred)
- Experience in a decentralized industrial holding company structure (Preferred)
