Successful candidates train for approximately 1 year in all designated areas and upon successful completion of training and the issuing of an IAA Warrant Card as an authorised officer they are promoted by 2 points on the Airworthiness Inspector pay scale.

The Irish Aviation Authority (IAA) is the single aviation regulator for Ireland. We are responsible for the regulation of safety security and consumer interests.

The IAA is seeking a highly motivated individual with extensive aviation industry experience to join our Airworthiness Division. This role will provide the successful candidate with exciting opportunity to make an influential contribution to a modern Irish aviation regulator with responsibility across the full range of regulatory issues affecting industry and consumers.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  • Advise the relevant divisional managers on matters concerning entry control for the:

- Approval of aircraft maintenance programs and the issue of Airworthiness Review Certificates (ARCs) for aircraft; and

- Granting of certificates to organisations for the provision of aircraft maintenance and continuing airworthiness services for aircraft

  • Exercise surveillance to ensure that activities in relation to aircraft maintenance and repair and the control of their continuing airworthiness comply with the required safety standards. This includes audits spot checks inspections sampling periodic meetings with operators and liaising with the industry

  • Provide information and support as appropriate to aircraft operators for the purposes of clarification policy announcements technical information accident information etc. Support includes giving advice on regulations and standards

  • Exercise corrective action (i.e. administrative and if necessary initiate legal measures) to ensure compliance with the required airworthiness standards for aircraft

  • Advise the IAA on exit control for certificate holders (i.e. organisations) aircraft and related services products parts facilities procedures or systems on matters concerning:

- Variation;

- Suspension;

- Revocation or disqualification to a certificate; as well as seizing aircraft products parts or facilities; and

- exercise exit control over those voluntarily leaving the system

  • Conduct surveys of aircraft for continuing airworthiness and related activities

  • Advise the IAA management on specific or general matters relating to the airworthiness of aircraft

  • Assist in the provision of technical advice in the development of safety standards and in the development of regulations concerning the airworthiness of aircraft

  • Assist in the maintenance and preservation of records relating to the airworthiness of aircraft and their operation

  • Assist in the provision of technical advice and support in the investigation of aircraft accidents incidents and defects

  • Represent the IAA management on matters relating to the airworthiness of aircraft

Job requirements

The successful candidate should have the following qualifications and skills:

  • A primary degree in an aviation or related field or a maintenance engineers licence or equivalent level of qualification/expertise on transport aeroplanes or helicopters or a technical management qualification in an area of specialist aviation for at least 8 years.

  • Have extensive experience in the management of aircraft line maintenance base maintenance or technical engineering support at post holder or equivalent level

  • Have experience of modern management techniques as they apply to the maintenance of transport aircraft

  • The ability to investigate and to reach justified conclusions

  • The ability to cope concurrently with many tasks and to work under time pressure.

  • Willingness to travel extensively

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills with the ability to produce coherent and well-constructed reports

  • Strong management and organisational skills together with the ability to deal with aviation companies at the highest level

  • Excellent IT skills including the full range of O365 is a prerequisite. Ability to familiarise and become proficient with specialist software is also required

  • Have a good working knowledge of Irish EU and international laws and standards.

  • Have a sound understanding of aviation safety management systems

Desirable

  • Have experience in the assessment of maintenance or maintenance management organisations and personnel

  • Have experience in the maintenance and management of small or non-commercial aircraft

  • Understanding of the framework of international organisations with which IAA works including ICAO EASA and the European Commission

Salary Range

The salary range for this role is 91967 to 149389 (Incremental scale).

Successful candidates train for approximately 1 year in all designated areas and upon successful completion of training and the issuing of IAA Warrant Card as an authorised officer they are promoted by 2 points on this pay scale.

Probationary Period

The position is subject to a probationary period of 6 months from the date of actual commencement and is subject to the provision of satisfactory performance during that period.

HOURS OF ATTENDANCE

Hours of attendance will be fixed from time to time but will amount to not less than 41 hours gross (36 hours net) per week. The successful candidate will be required to work additional hours from time to time as may be reasonable and necessary for the proper performance of their duties subject to the limits set down in the working time regulations.

Annual Leave

Annual Leave excluding public holidays is 26 days per annum rising to 30 days after 5 years service.

Pension

The successful candidate will on date of joining become a member of the Irish Aviation Authority pension scheme details of which will be communicated to the successful candidate on offer of appointment.
