PPLE is looking for a tutor with a masters (or equivalent) degree in Law who will contribute to our community. Preferably you have an interdisciplinary background and international outlook. The ideal candidate can teach multiple tutorial classes during a block both interdisciplinary and specific to the Law major.

What you will do

PPLE is a small scale interdisciplinary Bachelors programme. Class sizes of the tutorials are around 15 students and student attendance is mandatory. Tutorials therefore require an active involvement of each student. As a tutor you will deliver material that enables students to work together and learn how to understand and apply course material. Tutors work within a team to align on meeting course objectives delivering tutorials and grading assignments and exams.

PPLE College actively promotes students personal development and academic competencies. PPLE College uses a mentor system to help students with their academic progress and offer guidance throughout their the second year of the contract tutors can become a mentor for a group of around 15 students.

PPLE College follows the UvAs 8-8-4 schedule or block the 1st 2nd 4th and 5th block students take two courses consecutively. Per course they have 2x2 hours of lectures and 2x2 hours of tutorials per week. During blocks 3 (January) and 6 (June) students take a 4-week course.

What we expect from you

The successful PPLE Tutor for Law must have completed a masters degree in law and ideally education in another of the PPLE disciplines namely Political Science (Social) Psychology or Economics & Business. While candidates should be able to teach in both public and private law domains one position will have a more private focus (e.g. tort law contract law) while the other will have a more public focus (e.g. administrative law constitutional law EU law). Both positions may entail teaching courses on legal skills (doctrinal sociolegal empirical methods) as well as courses from the interdisciplinary law core including human rights. Further you bring:

  • excellent English language skills (CEFR-level C2 proficiency) and preferably experience teaching in English;
  • experience teaching in a university setting (e.g. as a tutor or seminar instructor);
  • an affinity with interdisciplinary teaching and/or research and excellence/honours teaching;
  • experience in international settings and within a multicultural environment
  • an ability to teach two tutorials consecutively (parallel groups during same block);
  • a commitment to participate in tutor trainings and learning opportunities organised by PPLE College and/or the Amsterdam Law School;
  • a willingness to contribute to PPLE as a community;
  • must currently hold a valid work permit for the Netherlands for the duration of the contract.

What we offer you

We offer a 4-year employment contract with a two-month probationary period preferably starting 17 August 2026 for 26.6 hours per week (0.7 FTE). The employment contract ends after 4 years and cannot be extended.

PPLE College requires teaching staff to join tutor trainings twice per year. The contract includes time for training and development. For tutors who become an academic mentor a coaching training will be offered for which you will receive a recognised the second or third year you will pursue the University Teaching Qualification (UTQ) / Basis Kwalificatie Onderwijs (BKO) which is recognised by all Dutch universities. The UvA also offers a wide range of courses and training programmes in areas such as talent and career development effective (team) working and health and vitality.

Your salary depending on your relevant experience on commencement of the employment contract ranges between3.546 to 5.538 gross per month on the basis of a full working week of 38 addition you will receive 8% holiday allowance and 8.3% year-end allowance. The Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities (CAO NU) is applicable.

In addition to this you will also become part of PPLEs diverse and engaging community of staff tutors and lecturers. To help nourish the bonds in our community we provide lunch in the office twice per week and host group outings a few times a year.

PPLE College at the University of Amsterdam (UvA) offers an interdisciplinary research-based English taught bachelor programme in Politics Psychology Law & Economics (PPLE).

PPLE College offers students an academic programme focused on the challenges science and society face at the intersections of its four disciplines.
