What you will be doing...
The VCP Far Edge Automation team builds and maintains the automation that manages the full lifecycle of Verizons virtualized RAN(vRAN) infrastructure the technology powering the nations largest most reliable 5G network. Our automation drives Lifecycle Management (LCM) for vRAN software deployments across Ericsson Samsung and Corning vDU platforms as well as the Far Edge hardware stacks from HPE ZT Systems and Dell that run beneath them. The team brings together DevOps engineers and AI engineers to deliver automation solutions end-to-end from infrastructure pipelines and configuration management to intelligent AI-driven remediation and tooling.
As a Senior Engineer on this team youll be a core contributor owning the build and maintenance of automation that deploys configures upgrades and heals vRAN infrastructure at national scale.
Youll work closely with the team to take technical direction and deliver reliable automation solutions that the broader team can depend on in production.
Building and maintaining Ansible-based automation for vRAN LCM workflows including initial deployments software upgrades configuration management and fallout remediation across Ericsson Samsung and Corning vDU platforms.
Developing and maintaining automation for Far Edge hardware lifecycle management covering HPE ZT Systems and Dell vRAN server platforms (BIOS firmware OS and driver management).
Writing Python tooling to support automation workflows REST API integrations data processing inventory management and operational reporting.
Owning CI/CD pipelines that test validate and deploy automation code using Jenkins GitLab CI or equivalent tools.
Working with databases (PostgreSQL MySQL MongoDB) to manage automation state deployment history inventory and run data.
Troubleshooting automation failures across the full stack from pipeline issues to failed playbooks to vendor API problems and drive fixes through to resolution.
Participating in code reviews and maintain a high bar for code quality test coverage and documentation.
Building and maintaining dashboards and alerting integrations (Grafana Kibana Icinga) to track LCM automation health and delivery KPIs.
Maintaining documentation: playbooks MOPs design docs and implementation guides for supported platforms.
Collaborating with operations planning and vendor engineering teams to translate network requirements into automation solutions.
What we are looking for
Youll need to have:
Bachelors degree or four or more years of hands-on work experience in lieu of degree.
Six or more years of experience in a DevOps automation engineering or platform engineering role.
Strong production-grade Ansible skills writing roles playbooks dynamic inventories and custom modules.
Strong Python skills clean testable maintainable code used in real automation workflows not just one-off scripts.
Hands-on database experience writing queries managing schemas and integrating databases into automation pipelines (PostgreSQL MySQL or MongoDB).
Solid CI/CD pipeline experience using Jenkins GitLab CI or equivalent.
Proficiency in Git-based workflows (Bitbucket GitLab or GitHub).
Linux/Unix systems experience with solid Shell scripting skills.
Familiarity with containerization and orchestration (Docker Kubernetes).
Ability to work US Central Standard Time (CST) business hours (8:00 AM to 5:00 PM CT) which corresponds to 6:30 PM to 3:30 AM Indian Standard Time.
Even better if you have:
Experience in telecommunications RAN vRAN or virtualized network infrastructure particularly with vendors like Ericsson Samsung Corning HPE ZT Systems or Dell in a network context.
Experience with server hardware lifecycle management (BIOS/firmware upgrades OS provisioning driver management) in a data center or edge environment.
Experience with Terraform Helm or other IaC tooling beyond Ansible.
REST API development experience building or integrating APIs as part of automation pipelines.
Monitoring and observability experience (Grafana Elasticsearch Kibana Kafka Icinga).
Hands-on experience with LLMs or AI agent frameworks for example using tools like Claude Code LangChain or similar to build AI-assisted automation accelerate code generation or prototype agentic workflows.
Experience with OpenStack VMware or hybrid cloud environments relevant to NFV/vRAN infrastructure.
