Job Summary

The Department of Resource Economics invites applications for a full-time Lecturer in Statistics/Applied Econometrics expected to start on September 1 2026.

Essential Functions

Teaching responsibilities will primarily include undergraduate courses in introductory statistics for business and economics; teaching responsibilities will include at least one other course in our undergraduate program.

An ability to teach in both face-to-face and online education formats to students is highly desirable. Evidence of teaching effectiveness in large sections (100 or above students) and strong commitment to pedagogical innovation and adaptation are also highly desirable.

The successful applicant will become part of a team in charge of teaching the Departments introductory statistics courses in a blended online/team-based learning model and will be expected to teach a 3-3 load.

Minimum Qualifications

Applicants are required to have a Graduate degree (Ph.D. is preferred) in economics statistics or related field as of September 1 2026 and expertise in applied statistics or econometrics.

Additional Details

The Department of Resource Economics has 25 faculty nearly 500 undergraduate majors and about 25 graduate students (primarily Ph.D.). We place special emphasis on faculty-student interaction and faculty collaboration. We share a fundamental commitment to teaching and to attracting a diverse student body.

Working Conditions

Work is performed in a standard office or indoor university environment and involves minimal physical exertion.

Work Schedule and Work Arrangement

This position will start on September 1 2026 and will be for two years. The potential for reappointment is contingent upon funding availability and satisfactory performance.

Salary Information

The University of Massachusetts Amherst expects to pay within an approximate range between $65550 and $102800 for this position. Please note:

The low-end of the pay range in all faculty searches at the University of Massachusetts Amherst is the minimum salary for the rank included in the collective bargaining agreement between the University and the Massachusetts Society of Professors UMass Amherst/MTA/NEA.

The high-end of the pay range reflects an increase above the median of salaries at this rank within the department for faculty who may have multiple years of faculty experience.

The specific pay for this position will be determined by the University based on consideration of all relevant factors including faculty rank and required or relevant certifications when and if it decides to extend an offer of employment.
