Science Teaching Role in a Rural School Setting

A rural secondary school in Cumbria is seeking to appoint a Science Teacher to join its department from September. This is a full-time role within a school that serves a local community and supports a broad and balanced curriculum.

The Science department delivers lessons across Biology Chemistry and Physics with a strong emphasis on practical work and student engagement.


About the Role

You will teach Science across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 delivering lessons that cover the core scientific disciplines. Practical laboratory work is an important part of the role supporting students in developing investigative and analytical skills.

You will prepare students for GCSE Science examinations helping them build confidence in both theoretical knowledge and practical application.

Depending on experience there may be opportunities to contribute to Key Stage 5 teaching.

You will work collaboratively with colleagues to ensure consistency in teaching and assessment.


Key Responsibilities

  • Teach Science across KS3 and KS4

  • Deliver lessons covering Biology Chemistry and Physics

  • Plan and supervise practical laboratory activities

  • Prepare students for GCSE Science examinations

  • Assess student work and provide structured feedback

  • Monitor student progress and maintain accurate records

  • Maintain safe laboratory environments

  • Contribute to departmental planning and shared resources

Essential Requirements

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)

  • Experience teaching Science at secondary level

  • Ability to teach KS3 and KS4 effectively

  • Strong classroom management skills

  • Good organisational and communication skills

Desirable

  • Specialism in Biology Chemistry or Physics

  • Experience teaching KS5 Science

  • Experience preparing students for GCSE examinations
