Job Summary

The Opportunity

Dudley is a town with a deep-rooted history in the food industry and traditional manufacturing currently evolving into a center for culinary and health innovation. We are seeking a creative and organized Food Technology Teacher to join a Good secondary school. In this role you will lead the kitchen-classroom equipping students with the essential life skills of nutrition food safety and advanced culinary techniques while exploring the global food economy.


The Department & Culinary Culture

  • You will join a dedicated Design & Technology faculty that treats Food Technology as a flagship subject for student engagement and vocational success.

  • The school features modern industry-standard food preparation suites allowing for high-level practical work across a variety of cuisines and dietary requirements.

  • As a Good school we prioritize the link between food and health utilizing the curriculum to promote the Eatwell principles and sustainable food sourcing.

  • The department maintains strong links with local hospitality businesses and catering colleges providing students with clear pathways into the West Midlands vibrant food and tourism sector.


Core Responsibilities

  1. Practical Instruction: Delivering high-energy safe and skill-based practical lessons across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 (GCSE Food Preparation and Nutrition or BTEC Hospitality & Catering).

  2. Nutritional Theory: Teaching the science behind foodincluding functional properties of ingredients macronutrients and the impact of diet on long-term health.

  3. Culinary Mastery: Guiding students through complex techniques from precise knife skills and sauce making to dough production and food presentation.

  4. Food Safety & Hygiene: Maintaining the highest standards of laboratory-level hygiene ensuring all students understand and practice rigorous food safety (HACCP) protocols.

  5. Cultural Exploration: Integrating a global kitchen approach teaching students about the origins of ingredients and the diverse culinary traditions that make up modern British society.


The Successful Candidate We are looking for a practitioner who believes that food education is the foundation for a healthy and successful life. Requirements include:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or QTLS and a degree in Food Technology Nutrition or a related Home Economics discipline.

  • Technical Proficiency: High-level culinary skills and the ability to demonstrate a wide range of practical techniques to students of all abilities.

  • Safety Consciousness: A thorough understanding of health and safety in a school kitchen environment including food allergy management.

  • Inspirational Presence: The ability to manage a busy practical classroom with calm authority fostering a love for cooking and a curiosity about where our food comes from.
