Design and Technology Teaching Role in a City School

A secondary school in Liverpool is seeking to appoint a Design and Technology Teacher to join its department from September. This is a full-time role within a school that serves a diverse urban community and values practical learning alongside academic achievement.

Design and Technology is a key subject within the curriculum supporting students in developing creativity problem-solving skills and technical understanding.


About the Role

You will teach Design and Technology across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 delivering lessons that may include product design resistant materials and basic engineering concepts.

Students will develop practical making skills alongside theoretical knowledge supported by access to workshop facilities and specialist equipment.

You will prepare students for GCSE Design and Technology supporting them in developing coursework portfolios and practical outcomes.

You will work collaboratively with colleagues to ensure consistency in teaching and assessment.


Key Responsibilities

  • Teach Design and Technology across KS3 and KS4

  • Deliver practical and theory-based lessons

  • Support students in developing design and making skills

  • Prepare students for GCSE Design and Technology assessments

  • Maintain workshop equipment and ensure safe working practices

  • Assess student work and provide structured feedback

  • Monitor student progress and maintain accurate records

  • Contribute to departmental planning and shared resources

Desirable

  • Experience teaching GCSE Design and Technology

  • Specialism in product design resistant materials or engineering

  • Experience preparing students for coursework and assessments
