Job Summary

Chief Nursing Officer (CNO)

We are seeking an experienced and visionary Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) to lead and advance nursing practice across the organization. This executive leadership role is responsible for ensuring the delivery of safe timely efficient equitable and patient-centered care while driving clinical excellence operational performance and staff engagement.

Position Summary

The CNO sets the strategic direction for nursing services and provides oversight of all nursing operations. This role collaborates with interdisciplinary teams and senior leadership to ensure high-quality patient outcomes regulatory compliance and a culture of continuous improvement. The CNO is accountable for clinical quality operational efficiency financial performance and the professional development of nursing staff.

Key Responsibilities
  • Establish and communicate the vision and strategic direction for nursing practice
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams department leaders and administration to ensure comprehensive patient care across physical psychosocial developmental and cultural needs
  • Address and resolve patient and family concerns promoting a culture of service excellence and accountability
  • Direct supervise and evaluate all nursing personnel and departmental activities
  • Develop and implement long-term strategic goals for nursing services
  • Anticipate and manage changes in patient census and acuity ensuring appropriate staffing and resource allocation
  • Serve as a role model for patient safety quality care and customer service excellence
  • Establish monitor and evaluate performance objectives for the nursing department
  • Develop implement and review policies procedures and clinical protocols to ensure compliance with regulatory and quality standards
  • Oversee departmental budget financial performance and operational efficiency
  • Lead recruitment hiring training and retention initiatives for nursing staff
  • Provide ongoing coaching mentorship and professional development opportunities
  • Evaluate quality of care staff performance and overall departmental effectiveness
  • Participate in executive leadership initiatives and organizational planning
  • Provide direct patient care support as needed
Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required; Masters degree in Nursing or Mental Health Nursing strongly preferred
  • Minimum 6 years of RN experience required (10 years preferred)
  • Minimum 3 years of progressive nursing leadership or administrative experience required
  • Minimum 2 years of behavioral health experience in an inpatient psychiatric setting required
  • Prior experience in a freestanding psychiatric hospital strongly preferred
