Job Summary

The successful candidate for this position will be a 1099 contractor with Music Ministry International and be responsible for the following:

  • Contract Position Title: Catholic Mass Musician
  • Minimum Standards of Education Qualification Experience: Musician Shall Have:
    • Familiarity with the essential teachings and religious practices of the Roman Catholic Church.
    • Two (2) years experience performing worship and music services for a church preferably within the past 5 years.
    • The ability to communicate effectively in spoken and written English
    • The ability to effectively accomplish assigned tasks with minimal supervision.
    • Familiarity with and ability to use the following computer programs:
      • Outlook
      • Word
  • Program Requirements and Responsibilities Include but are not Limited to:
    • Comply with Air Force Instructions (AFI) and local Operating Instructions (OI) that apply to this position.
      • Chaplain Corps AFIs are located at Under the Product Index click on Departmental and then 52-Chaplain.
      • Local chapel OIs will be provided to musician upon initial award of contract whenever OIs are updated and upon request by the musician.
    • The Musician shall provide instrumental and accompaniment music to support rehearsals and worship services.
    • The Musician shall be able to play piano and organ.
    • The Musician shall be familiar with and able to read and accompany a variety of Catholic worship hymns and choral selections.
    • The Musician shall coordinate with the Music Director and Catholic Mass Chaplain to play selections appropriate for Sunday worship and special programs.
  • Pluralistic Environment: The environment in which this contract is implemented is a religiously pluralistic and sensitive arena of numerous faith group and denominational traditions. The Musician accomplishes the terms of the contract in compliance with the mission requirements and standards set forth and defined by the Department of the Air Force and the Air Force Chaplain Corps. Activities and behavior to the contrary are viewed as grounds for contract termination.
  • Background Checks:
    • A criminal history background check must be initiated and completed for all Musicians Musician substitutes and program volunteers working with children under 18 years of age.
    • If awarded the contract the Musician shall immediately submit a background check application to the Contract Monitor or designee in accordance with Department of Defense Instruction (DoDI) 1402.5 Criminal History Background Checks.
  • Dates Times and Performance Location(s).
    • All worship services special programs and rehearsals shall be conducted on Keesler AFB unless approved by the Wing Chaplain or designee.
    • The Musician shall perform and receive payment for one rehearsal and one Sunday service per week.
    • Additional services and rehearsals in conjunction with special programs may be authorized by the Wing Chaplain or designee.
    • The Musician shall remain present during the entire worship service and rehearsal to assist the Music Director.
      • Rehearsals shall be a minimum of one hour.
      • The Musician shall arrive no later than 30 minutes prior to the start of worship services.
  • Standards of Dress: The Musician shall be appropriately and neatly attired and well groomed. Shirts and blouses must have sleeves. Sleeveless T-shirts shorts and short skirts are not acceptable. Hair and facial hair shall be neat clean and properly trimmed.

This is a part-time position with compensation based on budget and the successful candidates experience and qualifications.
