Job Description:

Position Purpose summary:

To assist in the operations of collecting and processing donations in the Food Recovery Program practicing good stewardship of our donated resources. The student will provide service to local agencies and business sort incoming products and assists in Family Services operations.

This a Fixed Term Contract Position.

Applicants must meet program eligibility requirements including age and legal status criteria.

Accountabilities:

Clean and repackage recovered food. Pick up and process donated resources by unloading sorting placing and loading donated items. Work with clients in food distribution. Contribute to the safety of staff and clients (e.g. clear fire exits no obstacles inside/outside the building cleans spillage and assist in maintaining facility cleanliness). Take responsibility for the accurate completion of all client intake and recording into system. Perform other duties as assigned.

MANAGERIAL/TECHNICAL LEADERSHIP RESPONSIBILITY:

  • Reports directly to: Corp Officer
  • Direct reports for this position: None

FINANCIAL AND MATERIALS MANAGEMENT:

  • Uses or maintains organization assets in accordance with established guidelines.
  • Does not process any financial transactions with no budget responsibilities.
  • Moderate material responsibility: proper storage handling and usage of food and supplies.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • 35 hours per week

Education Qualifications and Certifications:

  • Completion of high school diploma

Experience and Skilled Knowledge Requirements

  • Up to three (3) months prior experience including life skills.

Skills and Capabilities (examples provided below):

  • Heavy lifting: able to lift up to 40 pounds repeatedly with no assistance from others.
  • Valid Full Class 5 Drivers License
  • Ability to stand for long periods.
  • Must be able to work cooperatively with others.
  • Demonstrate organizational skills ability to communicate effectively both verbal and written.
  • Good listening interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Self-motivated and disciplined.
  • Demonstrates ability to work with agencies peers staff and volunteers.
  • Ability and willingness to undergo applicable screening and background checks successfully that are satisfactory to The Salvation Army in its sole discretion (i.e. The Salvation Army Abuse Registry) and provide an original copy of a Background Check screening.

Compensation:

The target hiring range for this position is $18.50 to $23.13 with a maximum of $27.76.

Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions internal equity and candidate experience skills and qualifications relevant to the role.
