Description of the Position: (Purpose of the Position):

The Psychology Fellows position offers students the opportunity to gain hands-on experience designing and conducting independent research focused on Diversity Equity and Inclusion (DEI) within the Psychology Department. Fellows will work closely with faculty and peers contribute to ongoing departmental efforts and develop skills in research collaboration and communication. Fellows will present their findings to the department with opportunities to share their work at campus events such as the St. Olaf DEI Symposium.

  • Cultural awareness and ability to engage thoughtfully with DEI topics


Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Design and implement a research project (e.g. surveys interviews data analysis)

  • Conduct literature reviews to inform research design and recommendations

  • Collect manage and analyze qualitative and/or quantitative data

  • Synthesize findings into clear actionable recommendations for the department

  • Present research findings to faculty and students with potential presentation at venues such as the St. Olaf DEI Symposium

  • Collaborate with faculty students and the Natural Science and Math Student Action Team on related initiatives

  • Maintain regular communication and progress updates with the faculty liaison

  • Manage project timeline effectively within a low-hour year-long commitment


Qualifications: (Education/Experience/Skills)


  • At least two years of coursework in Psychology and at least two years of experience in the St. Olaf College Psychology department required.

  • Demonstrated interest in Diversity Equity and Inclusion (DEI)

  • Ability to independently design conduct and present research

  • Strong written verbal and interpersonal communication skills

  • Experience with or coursework in research methods and/or data analysis

  • Strong organizational and time-management skills (able to manage a long-term project with minimal weekly hours)

  • Ability to collaborate with faculty students and interdisciplinary teams

  • Initiative and self-motivation
