Position Summary
Guilford College seeks a Director of Public Safety to lead a comprehensive community-centered campus safety program grounded in student engagement proactive risk management and a culture of care.
Reporting to the Dean of Students this role ensures compliance with the Jeanne Clery Act Title IX and Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) while supporting institutional readiness for accreditation standards (e.g. Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges). The Director provides visible leadership oversees emergency preparedness and advances equitable and student-centered safety practices.
Key Responsibilities
Lead Clery Act compliance including Annual Security Report (ASR) Daily Crime Log Timely Warnings and Emergency Notifications.
Ensure compliance with Title IX VAWA and applicable federal state and local regulations.
Conduct risk assessments compliance audits and policy reviews; maintain audit-ready documentation.
Analyze safety data and prepare reports for senior leadership.
Maintain a visible campus presence; build relationships with students faculty and staff.
Partner with Student Affairs on trauma-informed response behavioral intervention and threat assessment.
Lead emergency preparedness response and recovery; maintain the Emergency Operations Plan.
Oversee safety technologies (e.g. surveillance access control notification systems) and data integrity.
Recruit train supervise and evaluate Public Safety staff; promote professional development and wellness.
Manage departmental budget equipment and operations.
Build partnerships with local law enforcement and external agencies.
Serve as Deputy Title IX Coordinator and support student conduct processes as needed.
Additional Information
First Aid required; EMT preferred.
Must be able to respond to campus emergencies as needed.
Experience with Work Day Guardian and Banner 9 a priority.
This position requires you to serve as an administrator on call representative.
Experience/Connections with local law enforcement a priority.
Education:
Bachelors degree required; relevant field preferred.
Experience:
Minimum 7 years of law enforcement campus safety or related experience; 3 years supervisory.
Experience with Clery Act compliance and campus safety reporting strongly preferred.
Familiarity with accreditation and compliance processes (e.g. SACSCOC) preferred.
Knowledge of emergency management threat assessment and crisis response.
Experience with safety technologies and reporting systems.
Experience with Title IX and trauma-informed practices ideal.

Ability to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends.
