Job Summary
SummaryActs as an active member of the patient care team to provide clinical patient care assessment initiation modification and discontinuance of therapeutic respiratory care procedures to critically ill patients. Analyzes and evaluates clinical patient data to determine the appropriate therapy or interventions and makes recommendations on patient care plans to the medical staff.

Essential Functions
-Initiates and/or assists with appropriate respiratory tests and procedures as ordered to deliver appropriate care to patients.
-Responds to respiratory emergencies and transports mechanically ventilated patients when moved from units for tests and procedures.
-Prepares appropriate care plan and makes specific recommendations to physician for indicated therapy.
-Schedules patient treatments as necessary and provides consultation as an active member of the patient care team.
-Manages the administration of all aspects of respiratory therapy according to respiratory care policies and procedures.
-Makes regular bedside rounds and administers Respiratory Care modalities to assigned patients.
-Modifies treatment care plan according to clinical picture and response to therapy.
-Participates in education of students physicians staff and patients/families.
-Clinically supervises respiratory therapy students in the patient areas.
Qualifications
Education
Associates Degree Respiratory Therapy required or Bachelors Degree Respiratory Therapy preferred

Licenses and Credentials
Respiratory Therapist Massachusetts - Massachusetts Board of Respiratory Care required Heartsaver CPR AED CPR - American Heart Association (AHA) preferred NRP Neonatal.
Experience
Respiratory Therapy Experience 3-5 years required
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of respiratory therapy practices and procedures.
- Knowledge of relevant equipment and supplies used in respiratory care as well as ability to ensure that equipment is properly maintained and updated as needed.
- Skills in collaboration and communication including ability to work effectively with other healthcare professionals to ensure coordinated care for patients.
- Skills in patient and family education including ability to develop and deliver educational materials and programs that help parents and caregivers understand respiratory care needs and techniques.
- Ability to problem solve and think critically to assess complex situations and make informed decisions about patient care.
- Ability to keep accurate records and documentation.
