POSITION TITLE: Senior Human Resources Business Partner

POSITION SUMMARY:

We have an exciting opportunity for a Human Resource Business Partner. The Human Resources Business Partner is responsible for partnering with leaders and employees across the Institute and providing HR-related guidance and support to align business objectives within individual departments resolve employee relations issues and partner with management to enhance staff performance development and position is a great opportunity to join an established dynamic HR team and provide the high-level support necessary to enable our scientists transformative work.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

  • Master coach providing day-to-day HR guidance to business unit leaders on topics of performance management team member engagement development and organizational best practices.
  • Strategically partner with leaders and team members to ensure quality work relationships achievement of organizational objectives and retention.
  • Operate with a preventative approach to identify and escalate employee relations issues to Human Resources and Legal in areas such as performance management disciplinary investigations and workplace conduct.
  • Partner with HR and Chief Employment Counsel to address and bring to resolution employee/labor relations issues with the goal of maximizing productivity and preserving employee morale while minimizing adverse impact to the company and reducing legal risk.
  • Leverage workforce analytics and insights to determine the health of talent within the organization inform key people decisions identify trends and proactively work with management and employees to strengthen relationships and improve collaboration.
  • Identify training needs and make recommendations to leadership to address those needs.
  • Keep abreast of HR best practices and relevant industry federal and state regulations that dictate new approaches to ensure continual improvements in people and organizational development.
  • Active leadership role in the performance review process training & development workforce planning and succession planning.
  • Details of established essential functions for this position will be addressed/discussed during the interview process.

            REQUIREMENTS:

            • Bachelors degree in a related field of study.
            • 7 years of HR experience with a minimum of 3 years as an HR Business Partner with a focus on employee relations performance management and leadership coaching.
            • Proficient with California employment laws regulations and best business practices regarding people management (training & development performance management progressive discipline and/or separations).
            • Highly skilled in written and verbal communication; can adapt style based on the audience.
            • Must maintain confidentiality and use discretion when dealing with sensitive issues and information.
            • Analytically driven with strong project management skills and exceptional organizational skills
            • Knowledge and proficiency with HRIS systems specifically UKG/Ultipro is a plus.
            • PHR SPHR SHRM-CP SHRM-SCP certifications are a plus
            • Proficient skills with Microsoft Office (Outlook Word Excel PowerPoint).
            • While subject to change based on business needs this is an on-campus position requiring a minimum of 4 days per week working onsite from our La Jolla campus with flexibility to work 1 day per week remotely from home.

                              COMPENSATION:

                              The expected hiring range for this position is $135000 to $150000/annually commensurate with experience. Consideration will be given to experience that exceeds the listed requirements.
