Position Summary:
This position is primarily responsible for teaching the phlebotomy courses in Nursing & Allied Health Division. Under the supervision of the Medical Laboratory Technology Program Director the primary responsibility of this position is to provide quality instruction and supervision of student learning while maintaining a positive learning environment in the classroom. Teaching responsibilities include classroom and laboratory instruction. The faculty responds to students in a timely manner and communicates with the discipline and division via college-provided tools and resources
This is a 9-month adjunct position in the Nursing & Allied Health Division.
- Prepares instructional materials such as lectures presentations and lab sessions.
- Uses various learning assessments to evaluate student mastery of course and program outcomes
- Provides feedback on students progress in a timely manner to facilitate academic success
- Prepares and submits required documentation including course syllabi student attendance final course grades and other information as requested or required by the college
- Coordinates outreach with development and maintenance of relationships with industry-related personnel and employers
- Disseminates current information pertaining to services available to students throughout the college
- Maintains professional development/growth according to personal needs and requirements for certification
- Knowledge and/or experience using a variety of instructional delivery modes.
- Ability to communicate effectively and work cooperatively with a diverse faculty staff and student population.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications
- Performs other job-related duties and projects as assigned in support of the Programs and Colleges mission core values and goals
Holistic Student Support
- Serve as a respected professional role model for MLT students and graduates.
- Collaborate with faculty deans and other administrators to meet the holistic needs of our students towards ensuring diversity equity and inclusion.
- Advise applicants on academic and career goals to help them develop plans for program entry or graduation and job placement.
- Counsel and advise program students regarding career goals registration clinical requirements schedules retention and remediation concerns and job placement.
- Prepare students for clinical entry with completion of all onboarding requirements and thereafter monitor to assure maintenance of all credentials and requirements throughout the program semester.
- Participate in college-wide committees and initiatives related to student success and retention.
Teaching Excellence and Program Innovation
- Assist in the development and implementation of phlebotomy curriculum and course offerings.
- Assist in development and revision of appropriate instructional instruments to assure desired learning outcomes according to program standards particularly regarding phlebotomy.
- Actively assist the MLT program director in the selection and training of clinical instructors/preceptors
- Support coordination with clinical liaisons as necessary to assure appropriate student exposure to specific didactic and/or clinical instruction.
- Evaluate student performance within the classroom laboratory and clinical environments.
- Promote support and participate in student retention and other program and student outcome efforts.
- Attend required meetings scheduled at the College Division Program and Curriculum Committee levels to increase overall College and program instructional and outcome efforts.
Organizational Culture
- Report directly to the MLT Program Director maintaining a positive and active relationship for the benefit of the program culture students and the College and community.
- Work collaboratively with divisions/departments in the development to promote and support the College Division and Program efforts.
- Assist in annual program reports under the direction of the program director.
- Participate in the recruitment application process and selection of students to include responsibility of personal advising and program information sessions and returning emails and phone calls that request further program information.
- Assure representation of the College with external community partners (e.g. business industry and other higher educational institutions).
- Complete periodic review and evaluation procedures according to the programs master plan to evaluate program effectiveness also making any recommendations for revision considerations to program director and/or advisory committee.
- Initiate contact and communication with advisory groups and/or community agencies under the direction of the program director.
- Support a culture of innovation and input that encourages professional development and stakeholder input and provides opportunities for growth.
- Participate in personal professional development opportunities staying up-to-date on best practices in both medical laboratory technology and skills-based education.
- Actively participate in the programs advisory recruitment and selection processes in order to develop and/or implement plans for program continuation and/or expansion based upon a market analysis and community needs.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Associates degree or higher from an accredited institution
- National certification as a Phlebotomy Technician with at least 1 year of full-time experience Or equivalent work experience if not nationally certified
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree
- Collegiate level teaching experience.
