J Harlan Group is currently conducting a search for a Senior Software Engineer at a prominent Investment Manager in their NYC AI Data Science Labs.

This opportunity is available in both their New York City offices and at their brand-new AI Data Science squad in their new Baltimore location. Both locations offer the opportunity to collaborate with top talent drive innovation and make a real impact on asset management

This is a handson endtoend engineering opportunity with direct responsibility to Design Develop and Deploy autonomous AI systems as part of the firms AI Data Science Labs AI Engineering team. Collaborate in cross-functional squads contribute to the Build-Operate-Transfer process and help scale responsible AI solutions across the enterprise.

What makes the role unique is that some of these systems incorporate AI-powered components such as retrieval agent-driven workflows and automation. The position does not involve AI research or model training. Instead it focuses on practically integrating modern AI tools into enterprise-grade software systems in a responsible scalable way.

The AI Data Science Labs is focused on building the firms nextgeneration data and AI platforms aiming to seamlessly deliver ondemand MLpowered insights across their firm.

Responsibilities

Core Software Engineering

• Design build test deploy and own cloud-native backend services and APIs.

• Develop reliable scalable systems within modern n-tier and microservice architectures.

• Manage technical debt and continuously improve platform stability performance and maintainability.

• Champion engineering best practices including CI/CD automated testing code reviews and operational excellence.

Applied AI Integration

• Integrate AI-powered componentsincluding LLM-based services retrieval layers and agent-driven workflowsinto production systems.

• Contribute to projects involving agent orchestration prompt-driven automation and real-time data-driven workflows.

• Apply AI tools pragmatically to improve automation insights and operational efficiency while maintaining safety reliability and compliance.

Business & Collaboration

• Partner closely with business stakeholders to understand needs and translate requirements into effective technology solutions.

• Make technology decisions that balance current needs with long-term business objectives and fiscal responsibility.

• Collaborate across engineering data science and product teams in an enterprise environment.

The ideal candidate would have a background:

Required

• BS or MS in Computer Science or a related technical field (or equivalent experience).

• 5 years of professional software development experience primarily in an object-oriented language (Java Python or JavaScript preferred).

• Strong experience building backend systems APIs and cloud-native services.

• Hands-on experience with AWS or Azure containerized microservices and modern deployment practices.

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

• Commitment to quality through automated testing continuous delivery and code reviews.

• Curiosity and willingness to learn and apply new technologies including modern AI frameworks.

• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.

• Commitment to quality via automated testing code reviews and continuous delivery.

• Results-driven with a passion for learning and staying current with emerging technologies.

Preferred

• Familiarity with LLM integration patterns agent frameworks retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) or vector search.

• Experience with React and/or Angular.

• Understanding of financial markets or financial instruments.

• Note: This role does not require an ML research background or experience training machine learning models. Familiarity with applying existing AI tools in production systems is sufficient.

SALARY RANGE: The salary range is $151000 - $220000 plus employees may also be eligible for annual discretionary incentive compensation. Actual compensation within that range will be dependent upon the individuals skills experience qualifications location and applicable laws.

Work Flexibility: This role is eligible for remote work up to three days a week.
