Position Overview:
We are seeking a motivated summer intern to join our Finance team. This internship offers hands-on experience across financial planning and analysis including analyzing operating results building sustainable financial procedures and supporting risk management. The intern will assist with monthly P&L analysis executive reporting and cash flow management while also contributing to process documentation.
By the end of the internship interns will understand the drivers of JALCs financial performance become familiar with key monthly close tasks and acquire skills for presenting financials to a variety of audiences.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare and refresh monthly departmental P&L statements identifying variances and trends for management review
- Review and standardize JALCs Chart of Accounts mappings to ensure consistent expense categorization across departments
- Help build a cash flow analysis and forecasting model to support liquidity planning
- Design and develop improved financial reporting formats for Board of Directors presentations
- Support month-end close activities and assist with ad hoc financial analysis projects
- Partner with program and development teams to understand cost drivers and budget performance
- Identify opportunities to streamline financial workflows and document recommended process improvements
Prepare presentation materials and supporting schedules for Finance team meetings
- Perform administrative duties as needed
Qualifications:
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Foundational understanding of finance and accounting concepts with eagerness to learn
- Intermediate Excel skills required (e.g. pivot tables VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP basic financial modeling)
- Rising junior senior or recent graduate (within 12 months) pursuing a degree in Finance Accounting Business Economics or a related field
- Excellent organizational and communication skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Interest in jazz the arts or nonprofit mission-driven work is a plus

Schedule & Commitment
- Hours: 20 hours per week
- Flexibility: Interns will collaborate with their supervisor to establish a schedule that balances departmental needs with their personal or academic calendar
- Availability: Normal business hours
- Location:This is a fully in-person role. Staff work on-site at either Jazz at Lincoln Centers administrative offices (3 Columbus Circle) or at Frederick P. Rose Hall The House of Swing
