Job Summary

Conservation Head- Starting Technician (Part- Time)

Toledo Zoo & Aquarium

Our Conservation Department is currently seeking Part-TimeHead- Starting TechniciansWe are seeking two part-time technicians to handle daily care and husbandry of our Lake Sturgeon restoration initiative and provide support for our Blandings Turtle and Copperbelly Watersnake head-starting programs. This position reports to the Director of Vertebrate Conservation is non-exempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act requires a minimum of 24 hours worked and may require work on weekends and holidays.

**NOTE** Housing is NOT Provided

Essential Job Functions:

  • Daily feeding cleaning and care of the captive conservation collection.
  • Collecting accurate data including weights measurements feedings etc.
  • Attention to detail especially pertaining to the head-started animals.
  • Weekly collection updates to supervisor.
  • Training and supervising teenage volunteers or staff
  • Additional Zoo-related tasks as required.

Minimum Training & Qualification

  • Must be 18 years of age
  • Willingness and ability to work varying hours
  • Commitment to maintaining a safe work environment
  • Dedication to accurate and thorough data collection
  • Self-motivated with a positive attitude
  • Respectful and professional in interactions with other team members partners and the public
  • Must have the ability to lift 50lbs
  • The Toledo Zoo is a drug-free workplace including marijuana.

Additional Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree
  • Prior experience working with captive turtles snakes or fish.
  • Previous work with teenage volunteers or community outreach.
