MalaceHR is seeking a hands-on Operating Engineer (OE) to support a client site through a 12-month fixed-term assignment during a transition and stabilization period within an Integrated Facilities Management (IFM) model.
This role serves as the technical backbone of the site responsible for maintaining building systems executing preventative maintenance and ensuring overall facility reliability. Working closely with the Facility Manager the Operating Engineer will play a critical role in keeping operations running smoothly in an active warehouse/industrial environment.
This is a two-person onsite team (Facility Manager Operating Engineer) requiring a self-directed dependable professional who takes ownership of issues and drives them through resolution.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Maintenance & Troubleshooting
Perform hands-on inspection troubleshooting and minor repairs across building systems including:
HVAC systems and air distribution
Electrical systems and lighting
Plumbing systems and general mechanical infrastructure
Dock equipment doors and warehouse support systems
Diagnose issues and either resolve or escalate appropriately
Preventative & Reactive Maintenance
Execute and document preventative maintenance (PM) programs
Perform routine inspections equipment checks and building rounds
Respond to and resolve reactive maintenance requests in a timely manner
Identify and address potential failures before they impact operations
Warehouse / Industrial Facility Support
Operate effectively in a warehouse/industrial environment with active operations
Support infrastructure tied to dock operations material movement and large-scale facilities
Maintain awareness of operational flow and minimize disruption
Vendor Coordination & Support
Meet and escort vendors onsite as needed
Communicate technical issues and scope requirements clearly
Validate completed work and ensure quality standards are met
Report performance or scope concerns to the Facility Manager
Safety & Compliance
Maintain a strong safety-first mindset in all activities
Follow and support safety protocols including LOTO PPE hot work ladder safety and electrical safety
Identify hazards and support corrective actions in an active facility
Fire / Life Safety Support
Assist with inspections and basic troubleshooting of:
Fire extinguishers
Alarm systems
Sprinkler systems
Emergency lighting and egress paths
Coordinate with vendors for testing and compliance activities
Work Order & CMMS Management
Utilize CMMS systems (e.g. Corrigo or equivalent) to manage work orders
Accurately document maintenance activities conditions and follow-ups
Ensure timely closure and proper tracking of all work
Site Rounds & Condition Assessment
Conduct regular facility rounds to inspect building conditions
Monitor mechanical and electrical rooms dock areas lighting and plumbing systems
Identify deficiencies and proactively report risks
Communication & Customer Service
Communicate clearly with the Facility Manager vendors and client stakeholders
Provide concise practical updates on issues and resolutions
Maintain a professional and service-oriented approach
Ownership & Reliability
Take initiative in identifying and resolving issues without waiting for direction
Maintain accountability for follow-through and completion of tasks
Contribute to overall site stability and performance
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent required; technical certification or trade school preferred
35 years of experience in facilities maintenance or building operations
Strong working knowledge of HVAC electrical plumbing and mechanical systems
Experience in warehouse manufacturing or industrial environments preferred
Experience with CMMS systems (Corrigo preferred)
EPA certification or Licensed Electrician experience is a plus (not required)
Strong troubleshooting skills and attention to detail
Commitment to safety and operational excellence
