Position OverviewWe are seeking an experienced Registered Nurse (RN) for a surgical acute care unit. This role is ideal for nurses with strong experience in preoperative and postoperative care who thrive in a fast-paced inpatient environment and are comfortable working night shifts.
Unit Overview- Adult surgical unit with approximately 34 beds
- Focus on pre- and postoperative care for a variety of surgical patients
- Nurse-to-patient ratio: approximately 1:5 6
- Night shift position
- Three 12-hour shifts per week
- No on-call requirement
- Must be available to work weekends and holidays as needed
- Flexibility required based on unit needs
- May be required to float to other units
- Deliver high-quality nursing care to surgical patients in the acute care setting
- Provide comprehensive preoperative and postoperative care
- Monitor patient status including vital signs and response to treatment
- Manage surgical drains chest tubes and post-surgical complications
- Administer medications and IV therapies including PCA pumps
- Collaborate with physicians and interdisciplinary teams to ensure optimal patient outcomes
- Educate patients and families on procedures recovery and discharge planning
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation using EMR systems
- Abdominal surgeries (e.g. laparoscopic cholecystectomy appendectomy)
- Mastectomies
- Thyroidectomies
- Patients requiring chest tubes drains and post-surgical monitoring
- Vital signs monitoring equipment
- IV infusion and PCA pumps
- EMR charting systems (EPIC preferred)
- Medication dispensing systems (e.g. Pyxis)
- Workstations on Wheels (WOWs)
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) license (state-specific; must be obtained prior to start if not currently held)
- Minimum of 2 years of recent experience in surgical or acute care nursing
- Strong proficiency in preoperative and postoperative care
- Basic Life Support (BLS/BCLS) certification required
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification required
- Ability to work independently and adapt to a dynamic clinical environment
- Travelers must complete pre-employment health requirements prior to assignment start
- Orientation and onboarding schedules must be strictly followed
