Job Description

Position : Power BI Developer

Location : Austin TX Hybrid (Mostly Remote occasional Travel)

Duration : Long term contract

Role Overview

The client is seeking an experienced Power BI Developer to design and deliver enterprise-level business intelligence and data visualization solutions. This role focuses on transforming complex datasets into actionable insights through advanced reporting dashboards and data models.

The ideal candidate will work independently on high-complexity tasks collaborate with cross-functional teams and contribute to strategic decision-making through data storytelling and analytics.

Key Responsibilities

Design develop and maintain Power BI dashboards reports and data models

Build complex dimensional and semantic data models

Develop DAX calculations and optimize report performance

Translate complex datasets into clear visually compelling insights

Collaborate with stakeholders to gather requirements and deliver scalable reporting solutions

Manage Power BI workspace gateways refresh schedules and security

Perform data validation testing and quality assurance

Support cross-functional teams with data-driven decision-making

Provide guidance or lead reporting initiatives when required

Required Qualifications

8 years experience transforming complex data into scalable data models

4 years hands-on experience with Power BI (reports dashboards DAX semantic models)

4 years building data visualization solutions

2 years experience with:

• Power BI administration (workspace gateway refresh security)
• Cross-functional collaboration

• Testing and validation of BI solutions

Experience working with Texas state agencies

Experience with public education / special education datasets

Preferred Skills

Experience with Git / BitBucket (source control)

Familiarity with SAS datasets (.sas7bdat)

Experience with Jira

Exposure to other BI tools such as SAP or Tableau

Strong understanding of:

• Data storytelling
• Visualization best practices
• User-centric dashboard design
